Re: V8 Engine

The only way you are going to come close to the 400lb or less is by using an aluminum block LS motor. Best of luck finding one for a price your willing to pay.

300hp out of hte LS is a walk in the park too. All of them will make that much bone stock with a tune to the ECU.

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

Ready to burn this fucker to the ground. Alternator problems. Pretty sure that the brand new alternator(s) that I am getting from O'reillys are the source of the problem. Charges great(14.6) when everything is cold. After about 20 minutes and the fans start running or headlights need to come A/C is ...

Probably, I drove Corn pass at 7am headed to work and again at about 8pm headed home from work. Though I don't remember passing you, but you have to many cars to keep track of too. Me, I drive the 68 pretty much every day, 50 mile round trip to work.

Re: Projects from THE COMPOUND!

Had a slow day at work last week so I grabbed some parts when I went home for lunch and did a steering box upgrade on the El Camino. A Jeep Grand Cherokee unit is a bolt-in that gives you a significantly quicker ratio along with improved road feel. With the new rag joint and fitting adapters I thin...

Re: The "Retired" 510

I think I want to bend up my own sway bar. Anyone done this? Anything I should keep in mind? If I can find someone to measure the dimensions of one of the aftermarket front sump bars, I think it wouldn't be too hard. I have bent up my own sway bar. I did it for my 620. Pics in my build thread on Ra...

Re: The "Retired" 510

Quick tip on your wiring diagram. Once you get a copy that you like and get it color coded to your liking. Take it to a print shop and get it laminated. I have done several this way. So much nicer to work with and dirty fingerprints just wipe right off and it looks good the next time you need to use...

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

Of course there is updates, I just haven't posted them yet. Mostly cause I still can't get my phone and photobucket to cooperate. I have the A/C in and working. Factory dash control is now controlling the LS PCM which controls all of the normal A/C functions. Idle up, RPM cutout, high/low pressure c...

Re: Projects from THE COMPOUND!

Great, so now he has parts to work on his truck instead of finishing your truck.

But really, congrats on scoring some excellent parts. That original metal is getting hard to find.

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

Moving on to the creature comforts might lead me to believe you're pretty happy with the current drivetrain combo. AC is a nice feature. And yes, pics. Pretty happy with the drivetrain combo, though I have not swapped in the new motor yet. The attempt to get A/C is what started this entire LS swap ...

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

We have a easy upload here. Below the input field is "add image to post". One at a time though. But it works from phone or computer. Getting them loaded to this site has never been a problem. I could not even get them to upload to the bucket from my phone. Patience was at it's end that night, will ...

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

I forgot to mention that I also ordered all the parts to get my A/C working too. Vintage Air condenser and drier, Sanden compressor, Holley bracket kit, POA valve rebuild and re-calibration, Expansion valve rebuild, and a bunch of fittings to make the custom hoses. Hope to have it installed maybe ne...

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

I suppose I should keep this updated. Made a road trip back in June I think. Drove the truck to Bellingham WA. Truck drove great, still managed mid 15's for MPG. Then at the end of July I made trip to the Mossyrock area. New aluminum fuel tank installed in early July, with an Aeromotive stealth 340 ...

Re: The "Retired" 510

So, my wife sends me a text the other day that there is a 510 by our house. Saw it today, parked right where those pics look to be taken, only about 2 blocks away from me. Guess I am going to have to stop by and say hi.

Re: Projects from THE COMPOUND!

The stupid hang-up is the fuel line and brake lines. Seem that all that anyone local carries anymore is that greenish-grayish-blackish Teflon coated stuff, which is easy to work with but far from authentic. Might have to go to the interweb for that solution. That's because none of the countermen ca...

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

Just got home from a LONG test drive with the C10. LOL Drove it to Bellingham, WA. Google showed 289 miles each way. Drove there Saturday morning for my cousins wedding, then drove home today. Averaged 16.8 MPG, Seems to get 18 if you can keep it to 60 mph, but when you are averaging around 78 mph. ...

I like that idea too.

I have been disappointed with all of the commercially available socket holders for one reason of another, sometimes its the cost.

Re: Yello620's new build project. 68shortfleet

So I got that fuel pump/sending unit built into a final revision and was happy with it, then went to fit the tank into the truck. This is the common tank to swap into the C10's, it is nothing more than a stock tank from a 69-72 Blazer. Read multiple times how good these tank work and how well they f...

Re: Projects from THE COMPOUND!

Those are fairly rare heads these days. No bolt hole camel hump heads. Those make good power, but you already know that.

Is that a mess of weld splatter on the crank from balancing? If so, seems like the builder would want that cleaned up so none of that splatter got into his fresh build.
