Re: Weber won't idle - car dies with no gas

To bad you weren't closer man I'd swing by! Usually super simple fixes. Initially I figured it would be something really obvious that I just overlooked but more and more I'm thinking I have some blockage in my carb. I'm trying to find another Weber locally that I can just slap on and test but no lu...

Re: Weber won't idle - car dies with no gas

I removed and cleaned both the primary and secondary idle jets, though it's possible I was looking at the wrong things. I had found some images and it looked like there are brass screws on either side of the carb that hold the idle jets in place - those are the ones I removed and hit with carb clean...

Weber won't idle - car dies with no gas

So coming back from Canby I ran into traffic in Tacoma and my car just died when I put the clutch in. It started right back up and I could keep it running by giving it gas, but once I let off the gas it would just die. I made it home with a combination of revving it when slowing down or stopping and...

Re: My '71 510 goon

I guess it's been a while since I posted - where to begin... - Weatherstripping installed, rear portion anyway. The guy who installed it said the hatch piece was a little too large but he made it work. It's not perfect, but tons better than the cracked seal I had. The quarter window seals seemed a b...

Re: Rally Bluebird

Isn't that a 510 grille? I thought the 410/411 grille was the same height as the headlight bezels. An optical illusion maybe?

Re: My '71 510 goon

I didn't get any before and after pics of the lights, but I'll probably do that tonight when it gets dark - all of the stock wiring is still there, so it will be easy to switch it back. With regards to the weatherstripping kit, I went with the only place that makes a true full kit - datsunlandsocal....

Re: My '71 510 goon

So I decided to really make a commitment to my wagon and ordered a full weatherstripping kit the other day. It should arrive early next week and then I'll get to replacing all of my cracked old crap. In the meantime, I adjusted my valve lash yesterday (some were way off) and also installed a headlig...

Re: My '71 510 goon

Finally - ZX struts installed, lowered about 1.5" up front to go along with the 2" drop blocks in the rear. I still have some air in my lines, but the brakes feel pretty good - so much better than what I took off. Next up is an alignment. http://i1359.photobucket.com/albums/q789/67Datsun1600/2014021...

Re: My '71 510 goon

There was a pretty nice black set not too long ago but I didn't have time to get them that day and they were gone the next day. This car just dropped today, so it didn't even show up in inventory yet. I was the lucky guy this time.

Re: My '71 510 goon

New struts & brakes should go on this weekend and I think I scored at the wrecking yard today. There was an '86 BMW 325 E with very nice front seats. I recall reading somewhere that they will bolt right in with new holes drilled into the brackets. They're blue, but I'll figure out something to do ab...

Re: My '71 510 goon

just wondering since I've never seen the info posted. How do you determine how much of the tube to cut off ? I have an idea but just want to make sure my thoughts are correct. I didn't cut the tubes, just cut the perches off and will be using perches off of another set of 510 struts I had. I wasn't...

Re: My '71 510 goon

After some cutting, grinding, cleaning and painting I'm a little closer to being ready for the swap. Now I just need my split collar clamps and RCAs to arrive.

The FedEx driver brought me some goodies today. Now I just need my seals and to swap perches and I'll be set.

Re: My '71 510 goon

I'm not sure about the earlier Roadsters, but '66 and up had 14" rims, super wide too at 4" for '67 and earlier and 4.5" for the later years. Mine are 14x4.5.

Re: My '71 510 goon

I've heard of issues with 13" wheels but not 14" though I could be wrong. I figure at worst I might need to get spacers but I'll be able to mock everything up ahead of time. Either way I'm in too deep to go back on the ZX struts and I really want the better brakes they'll give me.

Re: My '71 510 goon

Are those roadster wheels? Roadster wheels with 620 caps. They fit really well but with the ZX struts I'm thinking I might end up wanting to use spacers to push the front back out some since they'll move in about 3/4" (or so I've heard). I had slots and really liked the look but the backspacing was...

Re: My '71 510 goon

Thanks - I'm looking forward to when I get to the point where I can drive it every day. My next project is the strut swap - I picked up a set of ZX struts from PnP during their sale and have calipers, bearings, seals and RCAs on the way. I'm going to drop the front about 1.5" which is a little more ...

Re: What struts do I have?

The caliper brackets match up with the struts and I checked the ones installed on my car and they look to be the same length measuring to the bottom of the spring perch, so maybe just an odd number not in the catalog for some reason. The bead on them just doesn't look factory and it had me questioni...
