Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Nothing like overextending yourself. Well Yes, but no. Anyways, almost all the electrical is finally sorted on the car, charge light comes on, oil light comes on, engine turns over, lights work (headlights still come on with running light position but I just don't care that much at this point). Oil...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Haven't done much lately, got the wiring issue fixed and the stop/turn, etc.. lights work. Gotten to the point where I have all except the instrument light electrical issues solved. Swap is at the point I can test fire but I've not had a lot of time lately. Still trying to figure out how exactly to ...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Did some investigating and a lot of pouring over the wiring diagram and finally figured out the stop light problem and likely the fuel gauge issue today. Wireloom running running from the front harness to the rear light harness was damaged and grounding to the frame. I'll cut out the bad section and...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

New ignition switch is in, only took a month too, which is fast for me. In my defense though I've had almost no shop time in the last couple months, wife's parents are staying with us this summer which means every weekend we need to do a roadtrip or go somewhere. We got back early today so I had som...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Update: "The weirdest part is replacing the fuse caused the fuel gauge to suddenly read full (tank is empty). Not sure what is going on there or if it was doing that before it popped the fuse." Evidently this is a known symptom of a bad sender unit. Will test resistance (grounds through sender) befo...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

After further dickery with the electrical system involving a meter, jumper cables, and the battery out of the F150 I have gotten some stuff working, broken one other thing, and left with some head scratching. Short version, everything I wired up appears to be fine. The stock under dash harness and e...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Well, exhaust downpipe is installed. Speedometer cable is hooked up and routed. Clutch line has been installed and bled (need to probably bleed it a bit more). Accelerator cable is installed and works nicely. Had to do some minor adjustments to thin down the ball end for the pedal, shim out the thre...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Spent some time today working on misc. bits and pieces. Biggest was tackling the exhaust pipe and figuring out an accelerator cable. Holy crap is the distance between the steering box and exhaust manifold tight. Ended up doing a lot of removing flanges from the downpipe, removing the extra shielding...

Re: Wynona the wagon's resurrection!

Holy crap, I got the intake and plenum off and the size of the intake runners is just dinky! It looks like a motorcycle head, lol! Makes sense for 2 liters in 6 cylinders but damn! I'd swear the A series is massive in comparison. The shape and angle of the RB20 intake passage is pretty sweet though...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Cable, go find a stripped BMW in a yard. They all run rear mount batteries... of course that is labor... Small battery, you can find a Deka ETX18L. Barely bigger than a Odyssey, a bit more reserve capacity. I also placed it under the rear seat of my wagon (it folds up). Did not know that about the ...

Re: Just another car I'll never finish.

What gauge did you end up using? Any issue with running the wires under the car to the battery?

I get that the fuel lines do the same thing, just big electrical cables doing that makes me a bit nervous, probably unreasonably so. I think I might copy this idea as I have been having a similar issue.

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Ok, I took a look at the thread. Never thought about putting it under the seat like that. I may have to stick the seat in (MR2 seat) and see what clearance I have. Currently the car has a bit of aluminum channel on the frame rail for a battery of this style, it just is super close to the oil filter ...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Stuff got done over the weekend. Radiator fans are mounted and wired up and relay set to trigger from relay fan switch in radiator. Top hose was actually put back on after this pic, but I need to change out the hoseclamps as they are way too long, you can also see that I went with the filler neck in...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Well then... So, I have actually been working on this lately, just not been taking pictures or posting. Spent all day in the shop working on this and doing some clean up and installing pegboard. Spent the last time I had shop time moving the access stairs to the mezzanine over (no fun at all). Done ...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Everything I just read is full of awesome. Congrats on the new place. The house from what I can see looks awesome. And nice to see the car nearly on the road again! It's definitely getting closer to running, helps to have a work space again, but so much left to do. So glad to be out of the duplex a...

Re: The new 1200 acquisition

Holy crap, I've owned this car for 5 years and still haven't gotten it finished. Well we bought a new house out by Oregon City in late June and moved in on the 4th of July. Nice place has a nice big shop, couple of decent sheds and a bit more than an acre. Been really sucking up my time though, inst...
