Re: Around Waynos house

That's a great result! When I was a kid we lived next to a school's agricultural plot. They had acres of strawberries. At the east end of the field were huge strawberries that we used to feed on with our friends. I remember the fruit being almost fist sized (mid to late '80s). Nothing has ever been ...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

Yeah, there were subtle changes during the production run with trim and such. Mine is a '59, which was the first year and seems to have a little more brightwork. The '59s had a bull nose on the front, whereas the later ones don't and have the bow light up there instead of on the roof. https://i.post...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

The guy who designed it was beyond prolific. A guy like him probably scribbled it out on a bar napkin and never gave it a second thought. Here we are, admiring it 65 years later. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Loewy It'll be a huge project if I let it snowball. First order of business will ...

Maybe a difference between ripening on the vine vs. picked green and ripening at the store.

Re: Around Waynos house

That's awesome! I think this is the first year I've planted any melons and the plants are doing great but no produce yet. My okra is starting to shoot pods though. I suspect your soil is a lot more nutrient rich than mine.

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

Well, the boat is still for sale and the price is dropped. I'm staying strong so far. In other news, I finally pulled the engine out of the flipper Outback. https://i.postimg.cc/6pxCXmnj/20230822-153859.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/d3vDfzzr/20230822-153913.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/RFSjbdgq/20230822-1636...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

Wayno, I can justify just about any (poor) decision. But seriously, I grew up with boats. We used to be on a lake or river just about every summer weekend. My dad had a Ski West franchise and sold tournament boats in the early '90s before they were bought out by Malibu. You'd never know it now, but ...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

If you go back a couple of pages you'll see that I was smitten with the idea of buying a Dorsett about a year ago They built quite a few of them, but 60+ years later, they don't pop up very often. One just came up for sale locally and I'm afraid if I go look at it, I'll probably drag it home. I coul...

I have about half a dozen different melon plants and haven't gotten past the flower stage yet. You're waaay ahead of me.

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

Thanks for reading the novel, Tater. This was the 4th year for a trip like this and it's the last with this crew. I was butting heads with one of the guys all week and it finally popped off at my house the night we got back. We go back to grade school but I've distanced myself for the last few years...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

On the morning of day 7 we backtracked a few miles to Clark Fork to resupply. Ate breakfast at Cabinet Mountain Bar and Grill. Most of the staff and patrons looked like they were still there from the night before. Food wasn't very good and neither was the service. There's a loop above Clark Fork tha...

Avery is probably most noteable for its rail museum. It was pretty interesting. https://i.postimg.cc/wTxLFZF8/20230722-092128.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/Kj0KdcQX/20230722-093920.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/jd92NFFh/20230722-094713.jpg As you leave Avery and head to Wallace there are 2 route options. Re: Gray Man, Inc.

We stayed at Riders Rest in Elk City. The proprietor has created a 4 space campground behind his cabin. Each space has water, electricity, a covered picnic table, and fire pit. There are also 2 bathrooms and 2 showers available and he even provides towels and bodywash. It's a great mid-trip stop. ht...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

On day 3 we all got up around 6, had breakfast, and broke camp. We rode up the goat trail to Trinity lookout (9500'), which was technically a side spur to the route but not to be missed. https://i.postimg.cc/zXP4vXWB/20230718-083400.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/RhhXxKgT/20230718-085130.jpg https://i.pos...

Re: Gray Man, Inc.

Just got back from riding the IDBDR. We had conflicting odometer readings but it was right around 1600 miles total over parts of 8 days. Day 1 everyone met at my house and we rode 2-lane road to Wild Horse Reservoir. We were too excited to leave and didn't get a group shot at the beginning so this i...
