The new 1200 acquisition

#1

Post by Gray » Thu Jun 27, 2013 10:45 pm

So I ended up buying a 1200 shell and parts from Randy... on the way to Canby
My boy and I went over to check it out and see what I'm dealing with.

Body is pretty straight overall, except for a couple of rust spots. Worst is the rear decklid lip is pretty gone but has been rust neutralized. Front floors have some holes but everything has already been ground clean or neutralized. Battery tray is already shaved (moved to frame rail for smaller battery) and the engine bay painted a light grey, even has coilovers already installed and aftermarket struts. They had started shaving the front marker lights also. Paint is a same color respray but it is starting to fail. Overall in pretty good shape.

Haven't gotten her home yet (about 15 minutes away from my house) but I've already started buying parts.

Super excited to be putting this together actually. The tradeoff with the wife is I have to sell my Mercedes 300sd (84 turbodiesel) which honestly I'm bored with anyways. I'm looking at throwing an A12 in the 1200 to get it running. After that I don't know. Either the B210 or the 1200 are getting the KA24E. I just haven't decided which :D
Of course if the B210 gets the KA the 1200 is getting the A14 and the dogleg. So win-win either way.

Edit: yeah I just realized this probably should go in the project build section

I've had 5 coupes and 1 sedan. My silver coupe was my DD for several years. Super fun cars to drive and get more attention than you'd expect. Plan on everyone over 45yo telling you they learned to drive in one. I ran an A15/dogleg/3.70(H150) and it was a well balanced combination. A KA would be a hand full.
When the only tool you have is a hammer every problem starts to look like a hippy.

I've had a sedan and a coupe before. The sedan was my DD for many years. Yeah I'm kinda leaning towards the KA in the B210 and putting the A14 in the 1200. I've had A14's in the 1200 before and it moves pretty good with that combo. The extra weight of the B210 could probably benefit more from the KA. Also the B210 would be more of a sleeper anyways.
