Dani, Danica, and Danise

Dani started it all for me. Actually, I'm lying. A Long time ago when I was...14 or 15 (I think), my second car I think, I had an Eclipse RS 5-speed. I wanted something new and a project. Well, I sold it for a grand spanking $1800 (I lost a gear). Well, being a stupid child I bought a 86' Mazda RX-7 rotary engine, 5-speed, Garrett turbo.

Big mistake. But hey, my friend Rocky started telling me about The Fairlady Z. Oh goodness, what a story I was being told. From there (yeah, I was 14), I dreamed of owning my own Z one day.

So what do I do? Hunt down a Z in price range (which was $0 at the time). For two years. TWO. Well, one night, searching the Almighty Craigslist, I see a red Z that is sitting for $2000...IN. MY. TOWN. Automatically, I tell my dad and proceed to talking to the guy. It was a done deal. He needed something running anyways. So I traded him my 89' Honda Accord that I got for my 16th birthday.

It was on. The world couldn't stop me. Everyone, meet Dani. The girl who started it all. Image

If you noticed the the very front of the hood, there is tape there. That is actually metallic tape that I painted red to hide the "creth mouth" (crack and meth). Aka, rust. Believe it or not, I don't have many photos of this car. I hate that.

I guess a year later, the distributor went out. I was out of a car and getting rides to and from school. It sucked. But hey, my family and community love me so much, that they donated materials to redo my car. Mostly inside. Come Christmas morning, I was one happy girl. This is my sight Christmas morning. I love Santa.

Before the flip, she had camel and rotting interior. Beautiful. A whole, different car basically. I drove it once. Turns out, dad rednecked the distributor though. So when I parked it and turned it off, it wouldn't turn back on. This went from the best Christmas ever, to the worst.

The next month, I finally have it running again. Thank goodness. Guess what? I drive it for four days! Why? Because coming back from Logan's Roadhouse, my tire goes out. And we are already reeling from Christmas now. So I have to wait a whole other month until I have money for tires.

Fastforward, (remember, I'm a teenager) I rearend my boyfriend. I'm following him to the local service shop to get some work done to his B210. Youch. I'm balling my eyes out because I hurt my car. (Once again, I can't find the photos of the damage) The car is still running though when I hit him. (Why I hit him: Because I thought I seen him leave from the stop sign, so I looked for oncoming traffic and took off. He didn't move until I slide under him) 3 days after grieving over my mistake, I go outside with a pry bar, a hammer, and a 2x4 and get to work. Fixed it up like nothing happened! (Of course my boyfriend bought me a new hood because he loves me so much)

September 2013...(Babe, I know you're reading this, but I'm not hating on you)...My boyfriend had just given my car a full tank. He had been driving it because his Bronco II was having problems (That's a Ford for you). It was getting late, and I was waiting for him to bring me my car home (she is my baby). It was taking much longer than usual though.

My phone went off, and his first words were "So...you're gonna hate me..."

Then and there, I knew what had happened. She was wrecked. Again. A dog had run out in front of him, so he swerved to dodge it to avoid causing any more damage then this car has endured. He accidentally oversteered it and went off into a deep ditch and skidded across one tree that took the driver's side fender off, then hit another right on the corner of the driver's side.

When I got there, I seen the dog. I should have killed it. Because 10 minutes before this wreck happened, a friend of ours stopped and called the owner and told him to put the expensive dog up before someone gets hurt. This friend never does this. He just minds his own business. But I called the wrecker and got my car trailered home (it was too deep for our truck and trailer to get down and get it).

I cried for months. My boyfriend was leaving for basic training...and I was without the car I love. The next morning, I get her to turn over and crank up for a very short amount of time. She still runs, she just has a sensor loss. The body is gone, but I'll be damned. Before me or my friend had it, the girl had rolled the car. Then I had it for one month and put it in a ditch (no damage). Then I rearended my boyfriend. Then he put it in a ditch. And it still runs! Everything electrical still works (even bitchin' betty)!

Milage on Dani: Less than 150,000. Rest for right now baby girl. Your guts will be in a new body one day. She is Frankenstein's monster.

A few months later, with my FAFSA money, I bought a piece of shit rust bucket for $200. (Excuse my cussing guys, but it's called for after rehashing that romantic story) But not before the vintage Datsun jacket my boyfriend bought me came in AFTER the wreck. Excuse how bad I look, I had worked a very long night and ended up at Huddle House.

Best story ever.

Here's Danise (Formalled Danica).

You know what. I'm not showing any more photos of this car. He did however give me two radiators, two hoods, and an extra hatch lid for it. The transmission is a 4-speed though. That's why I haven't wasted my time converting my new Z from a automatic.

I'm 19 now. In January of 2014, I finally bought a running Z, for $750, to replace my first one. Everyone, meet Danice (formally Danise).

Here's what I recently did to her, lol

And here is her main problem, besides being an automatic...

And from here, I have caught you up to the present. Where my current situation is saving money up for a 5-speed to put in Danica.

Alright.
Another member with some Z's nice.
Enjoyed reading that , and I like the z's !!!
BLUE valve cover is awesome lol

I LOVE THE T-TOPS... will have to reseal my black zx seals sometime though.

As a bit more of an "off the deep end" option. If you're up for the challenge (not practical to begin with) you can use the rear half of a 240sx transmission "C" with the deeper 5th (not an SR20det ratio which is a little lower) , a machined out 280zx 5spd front case to fit it(bell) , modified speedo retainer sleeve , put a different cluster bearing , and find a cheap short throw shifter , as well as shorten the driveline for a 5spd transmission. I would just get the 280zx 81-83 for it though like you're probably planning. The modifying process really isn't cheap , but you gain a range of transmissions to get for yo datsuns as well as a good cheap short-shifter lol.

Ripped apart a 79' 280zx distributor in my COPPER turbo zx thread if you end up doing the same down the line (for reference).
Slightly different top hat bushing than the rest , but I don't see why it wouldn't be interchangeable.
Haven't put it back together yet though.

Injector connectors are usually closer to bad than fair/good , and sometimes a few shorts here or there in harness.
Vacuum hoses are usually ... 1/2 to 2/3 of them are bad when I replaced them on the last (4) 280zx's I've owned.

The strainers in the fuel tank sometimes get clogged up... can be cleaned out or replaced with a new one from Nissan for $26 ? ish.

I've had a cat clog up completely on only one of many zx's.

I'm sure you've read that ^^^ elsewhere or I'm just repeating things.

Thanks for sharin.

A culmination of the cars she mentioned-Q's RF asked over there-Alabama.

She didn't tell her side of the story about this B210 that went missing. Should I dig the Ratsun thread up?

Because they're "his" cars. I didn't tell of our road trip we took in my first Z to go check out that 510 coupe either.

So, tell your side of the B210 story.

And start a thread for the A10.
