Jesters VG 620

Figured I might as well start this here since I am sporting a NWD sticker on the truck now.

Found this little gem in the big town of Mill City for a total of $250. The engine had just been completely rebuilt and needed to have the intake and exhaust bolted on. It had a brand new 32/36, tires and battery. After about two hours we had her running. Battery was shot after sitting for 5 years or so. Alternator died after about a month of driving.

Image

Next came a cleaning of the light sockets so all the lights would work.

Image

Image

After that came a nice clean set of leather seats from a Honda Del Sol. Not too difficult to mount up. I may end up swapping the Del Sol floors into the truck to bring the seats down and take care of the rusty passenger side floor. My plans also involve swapping in a '79 280ZX dash. It will sit a lot flatter and lower the 620 dash, so the lower seats should be perfect.

Image

After driving for a while It came time to treat the wheels to a fresh coat of bronze paint and ditch the beauty rings.

Image

Altitude adjustment time. Flipped the second leaf upside down to bring the back down about 2.5-3" and cranked on the torsion bars to bring the front down. This has given me time to understand that this will bring the rear down a lot without the use of blocks but it rides like shit. 720 4x4 rear leafs will be swapped in till I can get the 4 link setup in.

Image

When I bought the truck it came with a nice CD player but no speakers. I told a buddy of mine I was going to use my cell phone/Pandora for tunes, he gave me a bitchin Kicker amp. i just wired that to the deck this last weekend. Picked up some Kenwood 6x9 speaker out of a Jag at the pick a part for $2. Good enough for this guy.

This weekend I picked up another '79 KC cab to use as my mock up for the VG swap that I am going to do on this truck. If anyone has a spare frame they want to give away, let me know.

Image

Just for the record, I am a business owner and sole provider in my home. DON'T EXPECT THIS MOVE FAST. There is a reason I wanted a mock up truck. So I could work and plan as money becomes available. In other words........be patient.

Looks like a great truck for 250.

VG sounds like a great plan! Going with Pathy intake and exhaust manis?

I have a partially gutted 200SX intake that needs to be finished and holes welded shut. Not sure on the exhaust manifolds yet. I may build my own. Torsion bars are going to be replaced with coilovers so I should be able to run anything that bolts up and flows nice.

As for the paint, I HATE THIS COLOR AND IT IS GOING BY BY! The previous owner decided it would be a good idea to put bed liner on the lower portion of the truck. ALL the white on the bottom half of the truck is bed liner. Inner fenders in the engine compartment too.

It's funny, most people like it, I just don't care for it. It will be getting resprayed in a color very close the original.

Pretty sure Pathy exhaust manis are close to 200sx ones. And what I think Jason ran in his truck... I do know the Pathy Intake mani is the best flowing of all the intake manis for that motor.

gonna build a vg34e once you get the truck done?

Great deal at $250! And I'm another name you can add to the list that likes the color scheme now. What was the original color?

Damn nice truck for $250. Down here you would need another 0 on the end. Always wanted to put a vg in a hardbody. Will be watching this for sure.

Pretty sure Jason ended up with a set of ceramic coated SX manifolds. I will probably go with the Pathy ones just cause they are everywhere.

The original color is the light blue metallic. They pulled the original paint decal so I have no number. I REALLY like the 2012/13 Leaf color Planet Blue Metallic. Just a touch darker than the original.

Here is the color.

Jes, I did end up using ceramic coated SX manifolds.

I do still have a pair of pathy manifolds if you are interested in them. I also have spare SX intake and exhaust manifolds---just in case. :D

Jes, I ran across a Z31 gear reduction starter in my leftover VG parts stash the other day. Thought it might interest you.

It would not clear the torsion bars in my application, Might fit perfectly if they are gone and coil-overs are installed.

Thanks Jason. I picked up a '77 frame from Eagle Adam today.
King pin front. Anyone need early 620 suspension stuff? It's all going buy buy.
