This seems okay. But could get a little warm I suppose.

Probably about how I would have done it. It's a lot slimmer looking.

Well, some good news and some bad news. It runs! and it runs pretty darn good. I wasn't able to quite get to tuning it though, I kept seeing little puffs of smoke from over the exhaust.. so I tightened the upper and lower intake manifold bolts some more. They were already tight though. That didn't change anything still something leaking. I broke out the inspection mirror and went hunting. Turns out there is a freeze plug bottom center of the SU manifold. I'm guessing this was replaced at Ztherapy. But now it leaks.. bummer.

Not a lot of time to have them fix it.. but I'll give them a call. Maybe they can send me a plug and I can replace it. Or.. if it's a common size.. I'll just buy one and replace it. The other option is to plug the coolant ports on the head I guess. But there is a bit of electrolysis around the coolant holes in the head. Even if I plugged it, it might leak through the pinholes.

Anyone know the size of the freeze plug?

Actually... it might not even be a freeze plug.. might just be a regular threaded plug in the center of the manifold. Gonna go look with a mirror. Hard to see with the heat shield.

Also you can see how I ran the fuel line. I'm going to keep searching for the L4 fuel rail. I found a L6 version.. but meh.

I'm going to buy some insulation to keep the heat off the hoses. Found some nice stuff on amazon.

I'm just going to throw this idea up, it might be or not be your problem. With your mirror or maybe you can touch up in the area, see if the exhaust manifold is covering the " center "exhaust port on the under side the the exhaust manifold.
Reason I say that is you mentioned " seeing little puffs of smoke from over the exhaust ". I seen a X~mani on L20b not completely covering the center X port making it run OK but couldn't quite get it tune right. Anyways, just a thought.

I'm gonna go pull the carbs and poke around. I believe it's just the threaded plug leaking.

Thanks for those pictures. I found the plug and it was loose. As in.. I could unscrew it with my fingers. I just put some Teflon tape on it and the threaded it back in. No more leaks!

So I've been working on getting the wiring done for the gauge cluster and all the sensors. I've got a lot of the wires ran, now I'm adding a relay for switch ignition power. I could wire this into the factory harness but it's probably better to run another power lead and not put any load on the stock harness/fuse box. Taking a bit more time to do it this way, but it'll be nice once it's done. Plus now I'll have another place to tap into when/if I decide to run other electronics in the cabin.

Originally I was going to run 3 relays. I think I am just going to run 1 for now though. Switched ignition power. I was going to do it for illumination and one spare... but the 4 gauges are leds and such a small load. Those will tap into the dash lighting. I'll keep the other two as spares for now.

Now I just need a better soldering iron. Mine is a pile of shit.

Got it wired in. Still need to do final cleanup of wires in the cabin. Here it is, dim and bright.

Well.. the motor I had sounds like shit. It's making a clanking noise.. I've had it a part 3 times for this. Inspected everything.. mic'd everything. It's a mystery... so I found a new short block and have been busting my ass to rebuilt it. Plan is to get it running before Sunday.

Old motor:

Sorry no before pictures. I guess this motor came from Eagle_Adam at one point. It used to be blueish. Was sold to Brandon's friend to put in a primer black 620.. well he abandoned that shit a long time ago. Al bought the truck and parts back, and now I have this motor. It was all rusted to shit from sitting out in the weather.

Yep, that was my thoughts too. It's been that way... This is why I pulled it the last time. I inspected the lower end.. replaced the head, front case, oil pump, drive spindle.. so that leaves the short block.

So, not I'm replacing the short block. I'll take the old one to a machine shop and get their recommendations.

I myself took a Z22 block to the machine shop today to have it checked out, I believe I am making another LZ23!
