Picked this up tonight. Got it for damn near nothing. Felt like I was stealing it.

87 CR125. The mono shock is GONE lol. Came with a near new rear tire not pictured. Tonight I pulled the carb and cleaned it out, found out the coil was dead and has no spark. Swapped it for a different coil thats meant for a tiny 50cc Quad. It works, its a serious pain in the ass to start. But it runs.

I'm going to tinker with it a bit tomorrow and see what happens. If i can get it to start easy, or figure out how to start it easy even. I will take it out sunday for a cruise.

Yup. Its only a 125 but its plenty powerful enough for now. just wanna get out on the trails and have some fun. This is a stepping stone. Clean it up, get her to start easy.. Tune it, sell it and get a 4 stroke 250 most likely.

A 2 stroke 125 is every bit as powerful as a 250/4.
May have a bit better torque with the 2 stroke as well.

Things clean though.
Have fun with your Honda.

Those were bad mutherfuckers when they were new. When I was in 4th grade my best friend and his brother got brand new CR80s. Two years later they got upgraded to CR125s. Fast would be an understatement.
I would think a 4stroke would be more useful in the coast range though. If you run a 2stroke, at a minimum, look into re-gearing and a weighted flywheel.
When the only tool you have is a hammer every problem starts to look like a hippy.

Will do. I watched a video on how to re-ring this thing. I can't believe how easy it is! My buddy was telling me about a weighted flywheel also. He has a KTM 450 something or other... it was meant for the track, but he rides on the trails. He ended up putting an 8oz flywheel in his and he said she does great on the trails now. Thanks for the tips man. I have ridden many times but am a complete newb to working on them. Being a little mechanically inclined will help.

Just drained the trans oil. some water had got in there and turned the tranny oil to milkshake. It sat outside for quite some time. Hoping its that, instead of the water pump leaking or something worse :| Gave it a new plug, four kicks and the thing fired right up. Was a little hesitant at first taking off, but still seemed to ride alright.

Gonna head out in teh morning, fill the trans back up and hit the trails. See what happens.

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP

Cow pissing on a flat rock. I was soaked in ten minutes, rode for almost four hours regardless. I ate it once. Hit a little hidden stump, fell over down hill, foot got pinched between the bike and ground, then my body kept going. I literally felt the guts in my foot tear apart. It's now swollen pretty bad and bruise colors. That was within ten minutes of riding

Rip and tear! Gotta go wash the bike off and run the gas out of it.

Good news..

Got a text from my buddy. We are gonna tear into the bike a bit, and make ti more reliable and a lot easier to start. Have a coil lined up, different rear shock. going to straighten out the front rim, possibly set the CDI up a little different. Going to pull the reed valves out and flip them around the opposite way to see if it's just sucking in to much air.

Ok.

I tested the compression a couple times, its between 130-140. (my compression tester, even tho new decided to come apart)

It seems like the compression is OK. I will try again later this week.

I pulled the intake off, and found out the reed valve on teh top side was not closing properly. Seems time has taken its toll. I flipped it around and it's closed tight. Warm starts seem easier but i can't tell for sure until I take it out for a while and get her good and warmed up. Fired it up earlier, let it run for 2-3 minutes, took it up and down the road a few times. Got back, second kick... Turned it off, second kick again.

Still kinda boggy, if i have the idle down a little bit and i crack full throttle fast it kind of bogs. idle up a little (maybe its supposed to idle a little faster) and it seems to crack alright but wide open throttle it bogs a little. power sure seemed smoother when i took it down the road. Power band was nice.

Reeds are chipped and should be replaced, but we will get to that when more money allows.
