Finished and cleaned up the exhaust manifold and repainted with high-temp silver paint.

But I have a decision to make here. Picked up a different manifold and I have this distributor kicking around. Thinking of just throwing a Weber on it and getting the thing running. Carb would make the whole process go much faster. Not sure what HP and MPG I'd lose though.

What I'm thinking based on a 620 swap I remember, I'll need to make an adapter plate up.

So I thought well fuck it... I'll put the manifold together and see how I feel. First I cleaned all the misc. crap off.

Ok, got it all cleaned up, but the aluminum is still a bit uneven in color and it just looks a bit yuck, so paint time.

Looking much better, I will let it dry overnight and start working on an adapter for the carb tomorrow if I have time.

I know exactly how you feel... :D

Any concerns about fuel/air having to flow uphill? I guess if it works on a Model T it'll work here...

Well no updates in a year...doesn't help when the car is 600 miles away!

Anyways I've got a sunny day tomorrow and I'm finally putting the class III hitch on the back of the Toyota Sienna and renting a trailer to tow the 1200 up. Tow package was standard for this year Sienna up to 3500 lbs so I'll probably rent the smaller car hauler and put good tires on the back of the 1200. Should be up here in early May if everything goes to plan.

Damn, wish it was for a single cam, no DE for me.

Thanks Adam I really appreciate it. I'm going hit you up for the tow dolly, but been a bit of a change of plans on that end though so will probably be June before the car comes up.

Did some discussions with the wife and the consensus was the cars should be the last thing to come up and it was higher priority to get the house cleaned out first. Basically, we can start showing the house with a car parked in the garage but not with a big mess in the garage.

I'm still going down this weekend but I'll be getting the car ready to tow and cleaning the garage. Most of the front suspension is still unbolted at this point and I need to get the hood put back on, and the rear diff filled with fluid and the shocks attached plus lots of other minor stuff. Couple hours of work at least.

I'll do another trip down with the family memorial day to finish off the interior and then a trip by myself in June to get the car (don't want to tow with the family if I can avoid it).

Goal is to get the place on the market as soon as possible so we can sell it and move out of the tiny place we are all crammed in now.

Back on 4 wheels again, rear tires are good just need air. Sits pretty low in the front and high in the rear with the KA and 510 wagon rearend. Rear tires are high offset to make up for the extra poke on the wagon rearend. I kind of like the rake to it.

You can see the terrible mess the garage is in as I tear everything apart. We went down this weekend got the inside of the house basically ready to show, did a lot of touch-up and paint and patch.

Also, redid the ballasts in 4 of the shop lights, cut the shit out of one of my fingers too, I'm going to give it a couple days and see if it starts healing up otherwise it will probably need stitches (cut completely through the skin and could see the tendon, no bueno; duct taped it shut and went back to work). :aykm:

I have that exact same fridge in my garage too. Sounds like we're in the same mode right now -- pack up Datsun and clean up house. We list Thursday.
How is the work space at the new place?
Hard to tell from that angle but the 510 rearend looks right at home to me.

Yeah, moving sucks. That fridge is the beer fridge, freebie from our realtor who is a family friend, it will be staying with the house along with all the other appliances.

We are in a rental duplex right now. Will be looking for a place after we sell. I have a single car (but long) garage/slash basement now. By my measurements both Datsuns will just fit and let me close the door.

Just enough room to squeeze by the cars and use the washer and dryer, I'm sure my wife will be thrilled :troll:

It's funny how that works isn't it, but things tend to get cramped.
I noticed that the water heater would be better on the other side with the washer and dryer, it would give you way more room, but that is how it is.

I remember the same thing when I had 4 1200s. We could put 3 end to end in my dad's shop and still had plenty of room to work around them.

Holy crap, I've owned this car for 5 years and still haven't gotten it finished.

Well we bought a new house out by Oregon City in late June and moved in on the 4th of July. Nice place has a nice big shop, couple of decent sheds and a bit more than an acre. Been really sucking up my time though, installed a new wood stove, getting the machine tools setup in the shop, building a new workbench, and just lots of misc. house stuff.

New wood stove I installed (pic is right after installation, I moved the pictures off before running it). I've been enjoying having a wood fire going again, we also have a 550gal underground oil tank and oil heater to supplement.

Workbench I built, height and depth is custom set for me, as I find most workbenches to low.

However for Datsun stuff, I'm finally settled for the most part in the new shop so that I could actually work on the car again.


Last weekend the first order of business was to empty all the crap from moving out of it. Second was to make a new list of what needs to be done and to look over the current condition as I really haven't touched it much in the last 2 years.

Well had some time today and did some work on it again.

Got the wiring done for the fuel pumps and the feed line from the tank to the pump done. Also ran the wire under the carpet up to the ECU for the fuel pump. If I can find my flare tool and go pick up some rubber 5/16 fuel injection line I can finish up the fuel system. Turns out the FI line I had was 1/4 or it would have gotten done today. Still trying to figure out where some parts and certain tools are as I haven't completely unpacked everything just yet.

Also installed a rebuilt KA wiring harness I picked up recently, have a #10 ECU modded by JWT to install also which is now just sitting on the floor of the passenger footwell. I'll mount it soon. Relays are already installed as needed, down to basically just a few wires that need to get finished up for the KA harness.  Ended up putting a new hole in the firewall for it (has a rubber grommet in the second pic) and running it under the injector rail. I still need to replace the rubber gaskets on the injectors (boxes on the right).  I do need to figure out where a couple of the wires go of the KA wiring harness and to clean up the 1200 wiring harness and tie it into the alt and other places.
