Taken this morning ( I REALLY need to wash the car ... d'oh !)

Put the snow-flakes on her for now... they're a bit wider than what was on there (195/75/14's on the slotted mag's)
205/60/15's ? I believe on the snowy's.

Pulled out the 3.36 R-180 to swap for a 4.11 R-180.
( I just about put the 4.375 then decided against it for the moment.. )

Popped off half-shaft nuts and layed the half-shafts aside on the lower suspension a-arms.

Tachometer --- Well the sucker is toast ... and I'm sad to see it go since the datsun 240z-280z tach is one my favorite ones of all time ... all time !!!

I've tried to heal it's wounds along the way (mostly staring at it and cursing really..) , but I'll set her aside and see if someone can breath new life into her some-day [] .

I got it working for a bit.. this is with the engine off .. []

Shes coming out...

Image
dash and tach 004 by 71240z, on Flickr

The right and left turn signal indicator bulbs will have to be re-located if I wish to use them ... I'm thinking LED bulbs or something to that effect BUT not obnoxious.

Image
dash and tach 006 by 71240z, on Flickr

Not overly concerned with tach lighting bulbs ... but I shall preserve them or at least the connections.

Image
dash and tach 007 by 71240z, on Flickr

Just feels so wrong gutting her like this ... it's like pulling an eye out.. doh !!!

I have a replacement lined up and more on that later when it comes in the mail [:sneaky:]

I had forgotten I bought an s30 dash half-cap years ago , and stored it on the upped closet shelf .. derP !!! []

Image
dash and tach 013 by 71240z, on Flickr

Does just laying it on the dash.. count as an install ?... []

Image

Image

As thin as this is ... I won't be suprised if it warps and/or cracks like the original.

Honestly... years ago I didn't like half-caps AT ALL ...

Now... I'm happy not to just look at mini-grand canyons forming ... ;)

Thanks for reading

Got a 5" Auto-Meter Sport Competition silver tachometer from a friend. Thanks again []

This thing is so COOL !!! it looks tons better in person then in picture I assure you...

Pulled it tach out of the box. Look at that shift-light.. mmmmmm... [:D] (not for everyone I understand [;)] )

Image
tach pics 71213 001 by 71240z, on Flickr

slightly different look...in different light []
Image
tach pics 71213 002 by 71240z, on Flickr

This is the shade you see when looking at it in full light (daytime/afternoon).
Image
tach pics 71213 004 by 71240z, on Flickr

not too deep on the depth.
Image
tach pics 71213 005 by 71240z, on Flickr

Had to pull the mounting ring and shift-light off.. (to the side) so it will fit in the dash tach pod.
Image
tach pics 71213 006 by 71240z, on Flickr

Stuffed her in the hole .. perfect fit.
wire it up and ready to go.
Image
tach pics 71213 007 by 71240z, on Flickr

Original s30 speedometers and tachometers are set much deeper into the dash ... via their housings ... can't quite get mine back far enough to make it match without some definite custimization. The other option is to use a different tachometer (around a 3.75-4.5" one) and gut it or use the original s30 tach housing to secure it as well as stuff it farther back. I like having the tachometer closer to be honest at the moment. Don't be fooled though... I love the original s30 tachometers to death.

That's it for now.

Thanks for reading.

mmm!!! I love me some autometer gauges. I had one in my orange five ten. I pulled the driver side vent out and stuffed it in there. was a perfect snug fit... Wired it so the light came on with the key as well so it was just always on...

I have another one I need to install in the B sometime. Tho this one is to big to fit in the dash anywhere I will have to use the mounting thing it came with. Dunno why I haven't installed it yet other than laziness.

Wouldn't you like to know

I think the same size, maybe even smaller than yours. The one I have now is autogage, autometers lower end line. still a good tach. Ill try and throw up a pic tonight.
