epoxy primer first, then use filler. then you won't get any rust... bondo or other brand of the like is like talc, or whatever. it will draw moisture. if you epoxy primer first, then it will not hit the metal... and not rust. also, use fiberglass filler...

since that area (side markers) is exposed to water, it's best to use fiber glass aka fiber mesh. BondO will absorb moisture where fiber mesh won't.

The front markers won't get shaved but I think I'm gonna rework one of the rears tho. I'm getting trained to mig and tig weld at work so I wanna tig it up all nice and use fiberglass instead of bondo.

Well I've been workin on my new hood this weekend. I thought there was undercoat or something but turns out one of the previous owners painted over a bunch of surface rust and it was bubbling. So I timid the under side of the hood to bare metal and put down a coat of primer. Then I worked the top of the hood over. I worked out a couple small dents, sanded down rock chips where it had surface rust to bare metal, applied a little filler to smoothe it out and hit it with some self etching primer. Tomorrow I'm gonna do a little more filler and primer then hopefully get a coat of flat black layed down. Gonna go to a Halloween party tonight haha so hopefully I can get stuff done tomorrow

The hood is going flat black, which is the reason for my OCD about making it as streight as I can haha. Also gonna try to weld up the old mirror holes in my new doors sometime this week. My next step in welding traing at work is silicon bronze tig welding so I'm probably gonna do my welding with oxy acetylene to practice up with a filler rod. Should be interesting haha

I also ordered new front wheel bearings which should be here Thursday.

Here's an example of a 620 in a similar color with a green hood and it looks horrible

Black hoods are the proven superior choice. More than just a fashion statement...reduces sun glare. Safety first.

I understand the safety part, thats why I say plastidip.

But color matched panels win everyday of the week.

I think whats most off about that 620 is not the green, but the silver wheels/fender trim/headlights/grill/bumper. Its too much silver.

I went satin on my hood and out to the ridge at the top of the fenders to cover up some previous owners poor bodywork. I didn't even fix the damage. Just masked it and shot it. Lazy way out. Was supposed to be temporary but 4 or 5 years later I still haven't fixed it. I always liked the look though. To me, it seems more like it's on purpose when it goes to the outer edges of the fenders as opposed to just the hood only.

Eh ever since I got my truck I've always wanted the hood to be black. No point is painting it with excessively expensive green paint when I want it black.

Well at least I did the engine bay, jams, and interior. Haha I'm already far beyond the typical do it yourself datsun paint job :troll:

Yes you are.

FWIW. I like the pic of that green truck above. It looks nice. Black hoods have there way on certain rigs. Take your white truck. I didn't dig the panda look on it. But the green truck with black hood, grille.... Omnomnom all day.
