First we had the bluebird, then the.bluebird-u...
Well I dub the purplebird-f-u.
I will reconstruct this build to current date the best I can.

So. I broke into datsuns early in life, my mom drove 510 wagons untill I was a teen. She gave me her 74 610 sedan when I was 14.... and I bought my first 710 when I was 15... and that was it. Didnt take much to make me a datsun guy, and 710s where just the bees knees ever since.
Well as you could imagine there wasnt much available for info for 710s at that time... and me being a young kid I trashed it. My brother rolled it off a cliff, and 2 years later I decided it wasnt fit for the road.
So I started my b210 era of my life.... wich lasted a decade.
One day, I got a call from my friend tim who was telling me about a 4 door 710 that was headed to the scrapper but was in pretty good shape.
Having no money at all I came up with the only sceam I could at the time, and traded my b210 coupe to tim, who baught the 4 door and we headed down to bf oregon to pick it up.
The b I traded tim.


I do miss it but tim gets alot of use out of it, even breaks new datto heads in with it. Plus I got my 4 door.
Day one.

Me and tim, never seeing the car in person, couldnt believe how clean she was. My purplebird.
It took a bit to get her on the trailer, drive train had ben frozen for years but I dug in as soon as I could.

... so I got purplebird home, and thats when it realy set in, besides some pealing clear coat, she was in great shape.

The seats where nice and plush, since then a few seams have opened up on me, but I am to blaim there.

Even still had the original inspection sticker in the window.

So the motor that was in it had set with a blown head gasket for a couple of years. Cylenders where pretty full of rot. Everything was actuly. Cant sit for long like that.
So I polished up a imported l20b I had... cost me $!
But runs great!

This pretty older lady pulled up next to me on i5 in traffic and said "thats a vehicle!" And drove off. Lol

But runs great!

I've only seen that gold color once before on a 620 L20B. Usually blue. I just went out to take a picture of my L18 (I thought it was gold) but it's just rust and can't tell if it was any color..

I guess I dont know for sure gold motors where imported. But if not its a rumor that spread pretty well.
But there is stamps on the rear of the head, and block. .. and the oil always dumps out clean, and its never low. I love it.

So shortly after I got the motor in the trans went out... user error I assure you.
I did look around for another 3 speed auto (2 weeks after I scrapped several because no one needed them.)
So I swapped in a 4 speed out of my brothers 610 dirt track car. Used 510 peddles and they worked great, but I had to make a braket for a clutch peddle return spring.

Then I got some wheels from from my good friends adam and jessi.
they fit verry well.


But I felt like it needed to .ot be so damn tall.

The one thing I always hate is undoing the breaks.
Being alone most of the time....
So I decided to take this.

So I cut a wide slot in the break hose bracket so I could pull the line and the caliper out of the way without undoing them. Just be carefull with the line.

Trimmed down the struts, to fit zx inserts... not as big of a difference as I thought. Like an inch and a quarter or so.
Then I used spring perches and springs from a 280z. There alot smaller diameter than the 710, I also cut a little over 4 coils off of the top of the spring.
While the struts where out I swapped side on my 710 top hats, the 710 top hats are offset for camber, but by switching side and rotating them I gained a good bit of caster. Wich kept me from rubbing the lower front of the wheel arch.
Then I slotted the top hat mounts for camber.

I went alittle further than this. But I dont have many pics of this stage.
After I out it back together I set the toe and moved on to the rear and then exhaust.

Now for the back, ive removed the long leaf and flipped it to the top before.
Didnt like it. So on purple bird I took apart another set of springs and used the longest leaf upside down on my full set to get about 2.75-3 inches of drop. And a much higher spring rate.
I.just drilled out the pin hole.on the extra leaf and used c clamps to crush it into.shape.
You could think "oh drill out an existing hole, no problem"..... so did I but this spring steel was tearing up some great drill bits.
So I welded a fat bead around the hole, softening it up, and bing punched right thru.

Then I just ground off the welds.

When I was thinking of what I wanted for exaust, I wanted something that would also still work for my lz when it goes in one of my 710s, and after much debate I went with true duel 1.5" pipes. Didnt have the cash to do it all at once so I rocked it to canby with some turn downs.

Ordered some small cherry bombs to fit in the stock location. Or maybe behind the axle,
Just cause its too loud to actuly drive.... im shifting at like 2,200 rpm... its lame. But.hey I made made it to canby! So f it.

Took some pics for a craigslist ad, I good friend and datsun mentor came up with a b110 coupe for me. So im sacrificing the 4 door. Wich is by far the nicest datsun ive ever owned.
