There is one at napa for 10 bucks. Even made by Sta-Lube. Seems like an ok deal. I will be purchasing one once I have to fill a trans again.

Alignment... I had an alignment when i owned it last. but it was since raised a little and nobody ever got an alignment.

Well. Off to test the wire to see if the gauge still works. Will ground it out and see what happens. Already have a temp sensor sitting at napa incase it's just that making it not work.

I need a 2.2k resistor from any 720 that has a tachometer. Anyone happen to have one or can snag one for me? It's on teh driver side of the wire harness under the hood. Near the coil. It looks like a blade fuse plugged into the harness.

well it seems like 79-81 have the same temp sensor. Basically a hollow bolt or whatever that the sensor goes into. And when tightened down, it seats it so no leaks. I was wondering exactly how that worked as some datsuns I've had was a one piece temp sensor. It's a pain in teh ass removing the sensor part if it gets stuck in the thermostat housing when you pull the nut. I got lucky. I used a pair of welding pliers with good teeth on it, and a 5/8ths wrench. then just kept spinning it around till i was able to get the fitting off. Then I put a 5/8ths socket on top, with the sensor being on a piece of wood for softness. and tapped it back into place with a 5lb sledge. The socket is perfect, as by the time the fitting gets on the sensor all the way, it won't allow you to hit the connector. Tits!

Threw it back in, and done. I also put in my tachometer. But I don't have a resistor, nor is it connected at the coil right now. Will get into that more later.

Goto fred meyers. Go shopping. Come out, turn key. Nothing... NOTHING!!! Shit!! Have headlights, but no key power.... no heater... no starter... not a thing

Check connections, replace fuseable link with temp wire just to be sure, double check connections, check fuses, check fuses again. slam the door, swear out loud im done with datsuns muther fucker... Swear to the GF i am selling them all when I get home. So tired of being stranded in the cold rain. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR...........

Then it dawns on me... I had already wiggled the wires on the back of the key.. and pulled them off and jumped them to make sure it wasn't the tumbler.... Buuuuuuut. It's not a plug on the back of the tumbler. It's spade temrinals going into speaker wire, going into the original harness Wiggle wiggle... She fired right up, drove straight home. looks like tomorrow I get to unwrap some tape and re-do a hack job.

Find this tapped into a 12gauge stock wire...


Well, rip, tear... All out it comes. new butt connectors with proper 12gauge wire used, into 12gauge spade terminals to the back of the tumbler. I wrapped the spades with a single layer of elec tape just to be sure they don't get frisky and touch each other when they shouldn't at some point... All cleaned up and back together.
