I don't know for sure what the issue was, as I was having issues with the electric fuel pump also, but I got it running and driving decently, I used an L16 fuel pump I had lying around, and a new fuel filter.
I changed the oil/filter, and put a new valve cover gasket in, put all new bolts to hold the alternator in, as they were all broken, I have no idea why it was still in position, maybe there is nowhere else for it to move down there. :lol:
I also washed the engine compartment, it was very dirty.
I pulled the plugs to check them, I had fuel mixture about right, all four are a golden brown/white, I believe the back two were a little different, there was a little build up on the back plugs, but the fronts were fine.
The back carb is not really serviceable anymore, I closed the fuel mixture screw all the way and it kept on running when I disabled the front carburetor, so I guess it's time for a rebuild this winter.

It's a lot easier to work on my trucks with a hoist like this, best $75.00 I ever spent.

Yes it is, but it doesn't work with the 520 very well, I have to raise the front up with a floor jack to get it under the front.
What's really hilarious is if I have a flat, I don't think there is a way to get the floor jack under it to change the flat. :lol:

So I am wondering what everyone out there has done about an issue I am having, I changed over to an internally regulated alternator quite a while back, my issue is that even though I have good motor mounts, the engine shifts/twists to the side far enough that it hits the top of the idler arm and busts the front lower mount bolt, I suspect that the reason it does tilt so far is because I haul a lot of weight and a trailer, so when I let out on the clutch, there is a lot of sideways torque on the engine.
The alternator is larger and hits the lower radiator hose when more upright, so I have it tilted more than normal which is why it is so close to the idler arm, what has everyone else been doing?
I am really tired of this, I have to drill the bolt and easy out it every time it busts off every couple months or less, when I put it back together today, I could not get the front bolt tight, as the threads are shot on this mount now also, that is 2 of them now.
I was considering using a traction bar off the 1967 Datsun roadster that I have left over from a rearend swap, I was considering making a mount on the frame, and another one on the engine to put this bar in there to control the sideways movement, here is a photo of the bar.

The other question I had was what alternator is everyone using when they swap over to a internally regulated alt;, is it from a 620(smaller?), 720, where are you guys getting your IR alt?

I made this alternator mount bracket today, I forgot to take photos of it mounted though, I will try and get a couple tomorrow.

It works great, I lowered the alt. about an inch, and moved it back slightly, now I am able to use a smaller belt, and the alt. is not near as close to the top of the idler arm, I should have done this a couple years ago. :lol:

I had to mod the bracket a little, as it was hitting the oil pump.

You can also see that I moved the bracket mount holes back an eighth inch to far, so I added washers to move the alt. forward.
I am thinking the fuel pump is leaking a little oil, maybe it needs a new gasket. :lol:

I don't think thats a stock one. I am pretty sure the stock datsun speakers were Hitachi also, but I could be wrong. It very well may be. You could replace that speaker and install it anyways. It'd be cool for old school stuff.

I have an 80s radar detector i am going to install sometime. Probably will detect everything but a radar :rofl: But, the sounds it makes when it turns on is cool and looks awesome at night.

I know that the speaker isn't correct, it's from NAPA, it's the speaker box/holder I was wondering about, I have been cleaning my garage out, and have found some stuff I have not seen in years, or have even totally forgotten about.

Everytime you go by a Safeway or Fredmeyers the automatic door openers at the store will set off the radar detector, I had one of them a long time ago, always going off, but mine had a gauge, so you knew when it was a cop, as it went full blast.

GPS radar units prevent that behavior. But they are expensive. $500

They don't use radar around here anymore, they use that hand held laser now.

Yeah, now radar is becoming less useful. Although GPS radar detectors also detect redlight camera's. That's helpful. Anymore, you need to have laser jammers to go with your radar detectors. So... add another $500 for the jammer... lol
