Got a new job and got super busy with that. More work to come, but maybe not thread updates until It's how I want it.

for now, pics.

Image
Here's what I used as sound deadener/insulation for the time being. Foamish rubber on one side, abrasive feltish material on the other.

FYI that stuff you used as sound deadener is oriental rug pad. The rubber side can possibly hold moisture between the pad and metal and can possibly sweat. I would probably use a rust inhibitor if you plan on keeping that in there. Although it probably is a good alternative for deadener as we sell it for about $1 a sq foot. (I run a carpet warehouse. Thats how I know what it is)

Nice. Thanks for the info.

This is really kind of temporary for the winter. I hope to weld all new floors in this spring sometime. I don't think there can be much more rust than there already is under there.

Should work good for you then. For future reference you could probably go to a flooring store or flooring supply store up there and get some synthetic horse hair pad (jute as some people call it) along with some spray contact cement to use as deadening. I haven't priced stuff like fatmat or whatever but we sell the synth pad for about $4 a sq. yard. Could possibly be alot cheaper.

Nice! That's good to know. Any suggestions on actual carpet? I've thought about just getting some outdoor rug, but I'm curious if there's something specific I should look for. Preferably a dark red.

Indoor/Outdoor carpet would work the best. I would use a Hi UV polypropelene.

Here's a sample board with you a red on it.

Image

Different stores sell different brands but any store should be able to order you something. I doubt stores up there will stock anything like this. We don't. Cost of living is different up there I'm sure but for reference, we would sell something like this for about $6.75 a sq yard.

Make sure whatever you get that it's a unitary backing like this
Image

Easier to glue in and more pliable but most important is the backing isn't made wit a scrim and latex.

Do not get something with a backing like this which has latex and scrim (the square mesh)
Image
Eventually it will separate as the latex eventually becomes brittle and won't hold the backing to the facing anymore.

You can get indoor/outdoor in various styles and patterns bit the most common are the 2 top pics ^^^^

Sorry for being longwinded. Just trying to give you all the info you'll need.

Ended up throwing a points dizzy with fresh guts on today. She runs again!
Next weekend I'm going to try to get my hands on a radiator, and maybe pull the head and clean everything up for a fresh start and have it take me to work soon.

Well, if the bottom end is questionable I have bigger plans than a rebuild...

When I find the bottom end questionable, I just move on to the next one all together :fry: There's to many choices out there to deal with a fucked up bottom end. Oh yeah, same goes with cars

It runs, has a radiator, and drives. Still kinda sputtery though. Just gotta get it running top-notch by the end of the weekend and then it's cruisin time.

But the cold compresssion numbers were promising.

Cylinder 1 - 170
Cylinder 2 - 170
Cylinder 3 - 160
Cylinder 4 - 160

Good enough for me to consider this a good engine.
