Well fuck....

My overwhelming need to fix shit when it's not broken has bit me in the ass again

The top tank is the new one I picked up from a 78 that was being parted out


The bottom in what I just took out of my truck


I know there's a difference between frame mounted and bed mounted tanks.

Just hadn't seen the differences with my own eyes


Might have helped if I compared them visually before ripping mine out.....

The Tanks are shaped funny anyway, so just paint it black. Flat black, the dents will be noticed less and it will look better than Rust.

my tank isnt rusty and no amount of paint will make it look better. Ill get pics of the bottom of the tank when i get home and you will understand why i hate it....

and 78' Tanks are different? cause i would be willin to sell ya my tank if it is good shape. it will be a while before my truck will be ready anyway.

from what i understand, SOME 77's and all 78/79 truck have the tank mounted to the frame.

Earlier truck have them mounted to the bed.

I take it yours is Bed mount? if so, then you could probably use a standard cab tank, right?

nope, my trucks a 78 - the tank is frame mounted



and after a quick chat with the PO of the parts truck i got my spare tank from, sounds like someone vin swapped it at one point............

at this point ill probably just clean up the original one, clean out the inside, and put it back in if i dont find another tank by tomorrow.

REALLY WISH PICK N PULL WOULD LEARN DO USE THE DRAIN PLUGS AND NOT THE THE AIR HAMMER TO EMPTY GAS TANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well i was goin to say, shoot some ether in there, burn out the extra fuel, then cut it open, pop the dents and reweld.

Just an Idea, if all else fails Get someone else to do it. it would be fairly cheap, and stuff.... lost my train of thought.
