H5's Field Trip....To Wagon land.
Well to start off, a few know me from that other site. I started a build thread awhile back and kinda lost focus a few times..lol So I thought I'd bring it on over here. Since I'm back into the Datsuns and I don't really see any escape If there is a "Story of my life thread I will add a intro.
Any way back to the 510....which leads to more Datsun stories. Let's just say I owned a few, nothing outragous...but I know my way around a L motor and most of the odd shit that goes on with these old cars. 1st car was a 2dr in 1986. Owned a few more in the 90's sold'em off cause I got all grown up...NOT! So one of my friends that had 510's in the 90's also, calls me up and said....guess what? I got a 510 wagon, I'm like no way, he was like way! I was like...I'll be right over...lol So long story short his 510 had a bad motor and the guy he got it from offered up 2 parts carts for the trouble and he also needed them moved off the property they were being stored on. So we planned a trip and this is what we pulled up to.
This was after pulling it out where it sat since 1992...? About....all that carpet in the background was in the back of my goon.
And yes those Amber Tail lights are in safe keeping...my buddy got those.

Thanks and your welcome...lol This car has been running for the last few years...I will try to get this up to date. Nice 3 day weekend with work planned on the wagon.
Master cylinder and possible head removal to replace valve stem seals. See what happens.

Re: H5's Field Trip....To Wagon land.
Oh, I got more DRIVEN...103 pages on photobucket.
Clean off a few decades of grease and grime.
Oh the fun fixing up a exhaust mani...
What a pain in the ASS!....Found some nice HEX cap at Parkrose Hardware
I ground down the heat tube mount bosses and little nubs on 1 & 4 from casting?
Picked up a motor for a few bills......From WagonDave....first time I met Joey also.
Clutch on...good time for a beer break.
Little paint to make it pretty.
Carb and exhaust mani on....Nice new wires I won at Blue Lake meet before car was running. Love that raffle!
Different block off plate for W58 Intake.........Re-Zinced throttle rod and support I got in trade from parts car parts.
At this point I was getting all the electrical sorted out.
Bumper getting the treatment.
Windshield in and Turn lenses.......Starting to look like a runner!
First wheels 81 Maxima with 60 series snow tires.

Starting to look like a build thread. Looks like you kept it a 4 speed. L20b or something else?

Maybe it's been to long since I've had to wrench on an L
But looks like an L20 with the two bolts top right of the timing cover

Re: H5's Field Trip....To Wagon land.
Yes, 4spd....original one crapped out after 6-8 months so I just threw in another one. I have a Dogleg that I need to throw in...just need to get extra x-member modded.
L20B holding up ok....uses some oil, but starts up every day, so I can't complain. I have been planning on pulling the head and change valve stem seals. Just slackin on it.

Re: H5's Field Trip....To Wagon land.
Ok, lets see if I can get this up to date....while waiting on parts for my new wagon and the temps to peek up enough to go work outside again.
So it was like this for about a year...Whit car had a Ford V6...that blew up, swapped in a Single cam KA with Automatic, but then Sold it
Happy car on my way to Canby. 1st time.
Little spare I picked up at the wrecking yard.
Made me a Battery hold down when I replaced the battery...it was flat on top and had some Aluminum stock laying around.
So after I sold the white wagon I was wanting to lower my car etc....Had some rally ideas when I had both wagon. But with the white one gone, back to street ideas for my goon.
Picked up these 200sx Turbo wheels from Phil, rode around on these for a bit....Still stock height.

Re: H5's Field Trip....To Wagon land.
Fun little mod I did when I changed to Internal regulated alt. KA24e Alt mount with solid bolt.
Piece of stainless plate I had laying around, made a trans tunnel cover.
It was pre bent, just had to trim to fit between seat mounting rail and heater.
Was scrap from Pepsi when I worked there...always looking thru the scrap bin...lol
