Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
The pretty side.
The only tire that was low and needed changing was also the only one without a Lock-lug nut. I brought all four tires because guy said they might need air.
W53 head.
The motor looks to have been rebuilt at some time....nice paint on it and the W53 head, it also has a brand new Weber carb.
Came with a wink mirror, H4 Headlight conversion, New carpet kit, Map light, new Grant wheel some sort of different front seats.
It ran like shit at idle and we barley made it to my house. I popped open the dist cap....and points looked pretty stressed.
Tune up in order tomorrow along with more pics.

Re: Phantom Top....AKA The Crow Wagon
So it's time to nit pick this thing....right off the bat going to check the points I see the cap is not fitting flush on the dist.
This might be the reason.
Points looked newer but had mild pitting I sanded smooth. I still can't believe I drove it home with Derek following in my wagon.
And I tell ya it's weird seeing someone drive your car.
Missing intake bolt...
Plastic isolator was pushed down to where it should be....also is the tab on the L16 dist. pedestal towards the front or the back?...car is running, but barely when all the way over to one side....dies if you go the other way. Im thinking I need to double check TDC and oil pump spindle to make sure it's right.
So on the bright side it does have a new Weber 32/36
First off I will be pulling the intake and exhaust.....the Air tubing is still sticking out and just ugly, I will also put the Weber on a W58 intake with the bigger ports.....So I get to do another block off plate.
Also seen this when checking it out....Rubber gasket is on upside down.
Also when revving up motor it's making some noise from the flex-plate....so I will be pulling plate to check torque converter bolts.
Rear window rubber is in good shape. Also rear hatch glass rubber and trim.
Gas cap...Dirty
It started to rain, so what better time to hose it down.
Front marker lights are from something newer....I have some 510 ones.
Yes the slots are staying...they all have caps. This will mainly be driven buy the wife...Zoey.
And yes the top has some issue spots...like the pillar on the passenger side next to windshield. So some reconstruction will be needed at some time. I just happen to have the pieces needed on my front clip that I have.

Re: Phantom Top....AKA The Crow Wagon
At this point every mechanical setting is in question....from the stuff I have seen so far. I will be going over it, like I said checking oil pump shaft location. Also has a exhaust leek at the down pipe.....exhaust is in decent shape though and exits the same place as my wagon.
Might be needing a flex-plate..or maybe just tighten up some bolts.

Seeing that photo of the intake bolt missing, I was going to suggest that this had a W53 head on it, then I read the whole thread and seen the photo of the head marking, it is a W53, and it is a W53 fuel injection head, when your remove the intake, you will see the injector nozzle notches, at one time this was on a Japanese fuel injected engine.

Well it's staying Auto-Tragic.... This is the wife's cruiser. Some might remember the white wagon we had with KA-Auto, well we both have regretted selling it...so we are trying again. Future mods on this might be power steering. For really easy cruising. First off though is getting it to daily status.

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
Going to get some compression numbers tomorrow and check out the TDC issue. If it dries up I will get underneath and check out the flex-plate issue. I vaguely remember this car on Ratsun a few years ago...I think..kinda FuzZy memory though.

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
I just noticed the '07 tags. Has it really been off the road that long? How old is the gas in it?

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
Yes it has been off the road that long, the guy said he had newer gas in it, that he added when he put on the carb awhile back. I will probably drain it just to be safe and also a new filter. I'll let ya know about the flex-plate, I found out I was missing two engine to trans bolts, which explains some of the noises I was hearing. There was a gap between trans and engine big enough to barely move the metal plate between engine and trans.
I got my driveway all cleaned off from Derek's 620 pit stop. So if it's drier than today...lol I will get under it and see whats up.
Lower drivers side.
I'm not going to assume the flex-plate is fully bolted to Torque converter......with the things I'm seeing.
It has a small exhaust leak also, so I will be ordering a exhaust flange gasket and a intake exhaust gasket. I want to clean up the exhaust manifold...and get rid of the Orange silicone sealer crap on intake gasket.....Oh I hate that shit.
Zoey came out to help with the compression test....she didn't need the socket on 3 or 4....finger tight!!! 1 and 2 I used a finger on the ratchet loosey goosey.
150 across all 4. Will retest after we get it running for a bit....see if they move up, not the highest...but even.
Black wire needs to go to they Alt...other wire was the old Starter signal wire...They have a newer wire running into the cabin near they fuse box, which happens to be in awesome shape.
Some more goodness....Checking out the carpet kit. And took the seat covers off.
Just a little thing that might come in handy.
To close to the hood, had to chop it down.
lol....wiped off a few things under the hood and some painted areas.....Order gaskets in the AM and check out flex-plate tomorrow.

Couple more goodies...that will be going in/on the new ride.
Glass Front...plastic backs....The ones I was looking at for my car were metal backs/housing.
New panel mirror.
And the rest of the carpet.

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
Took the cover off the trans to check flex-plate bolts...I could see that two were in place. Then I found two engine bolts and tried to thread them in the block...it seems that they didn't fall out....they are broken. I tried to push a tap thru....um, that's a no go.
same thing on the upper bolt....could only put tap in as far as the transmission housing.....So you know what that means......TIME TO PULL THE MOTOR. So I got everything disconnected....When I removed intake & exhaust I was wanting to drain the radiator a bit and found out the plastic plug on the bottom of the radiator was broken. So then I was thinking maybe this head has no water ports, being a EFI Head. I removed all bolts from the intake/exhaust then cracked it open....only minimal water from the intake leaked out, as they had the manifold plumed for water.
.........................................................^^^^^^^ This is why I hate silicone just slathered on gaskets.
Nice build up at the head surface.
Theses Air tubes be going bye, bye.
It almost appears that there is two Weber adapters stacked? I will be swapping this carb to a different mani, so I will find out soon.
So motor is ready to pull along with Dereks LZ. So then I will find out if the broken bolts come out easy or I get to break out the drill.
Another note: This block looks to of had a dip stick up front...Maybe the whole motor was a import? But has one in the normal L16/510 location.
Will check that out, once removed.

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
Ok...getting down to business today...
Once the motor was out it was easy to see the issue.
Motor bolts.......well the ends of them.
Bottom one.
A shot of the Front Dip-stick.......It did have a Nissan Oil Filter.
Major exhaust leak Cyl. 2 & 3
Also a small leak on the down-pipe. A little fun with the drill, easy outs and a tap tomorrow. Then check the timing issue....I also noticed the Vac. hose going to transmission was supper loose on the modulator... Will replace that should help running issues and transmission shifting etc.
I still can't believe I drove this home. More fun planned tomorrow.

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
So, you're saying you need bellhousing bolts to support the weight of the back of the engine? You can't just let the flexplate do all the heavy work?

Re: Phantom Top GooN....AKA The Crow Wagon
So got the broken bolts out...
Ok, once I get a flex-plate it's ready to go back in, but still need to check out the TDC and make sure it's ok.
So tomorrow it goes on a stand, now that I can bolt it on.
