Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
Some 510's are different. On the VG30 website, they sell a trans crossmember that works with any trans apparently
however, they don't work with all 510s. look on your front seat rail. There is some larger holes going across the front seat rail (that goes from door to trans tunnel). Measure from the hole closest to the trans tunnel to the first bolt hole on the trans xmember. should be 10 inches I think.
Bananahamuck posted this once on ratsun. I guess there are some different out there.
Another work around

I am still looking for the vg30 thread, it may solve some questions at the least. will make new post in here if i find it

Good info. Thanks izzo.
I didn't want to buy a crossmember.. but for this application.. it might be what I need to do.
The more I think about it... the 720 trans might have been easier. Might be the exact same though too.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
lol wasn't meaning to point you in the direction of buying one
I was meaning, that on some 510s the mounting points are just in different positions. what adapters did you make to use the stock crossmember? The ones that are in the dime quarterly?

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
Just 3/4 drop spacers to move the cross member down. I just need to shift the cross member forward about .4" and I'd be good. The new cross member will likely do the trick. EE isn't currently making them though. T3 is still making them..
What mount do I need to use with the dogleg and this mount?

Looks like the 280Z mount should work. Can anyone confirm the mounting points from that mount to the dogleg are the same?

The dogleg and 720 shortshaft 5 speed transmissions are the same, if your having mounting issues with one, you will have the same issues with the other.

Yeah, I kinda figured. Ah well.. I'll charge on. Just need to confirm the 280z mount will work with the dogleg.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
I know mostly about 520/521 applications, but I went from a dogleg that had all the mods to make it fit in a 521, to a shortshaft 720 5 speed without any mods, the mount heights and distance back are the same, so I would imagine that mounting either of them in the 510 would require the same mount adjustments to have them fit it also.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
I think I am just going to buy the T3 tranny crossmember and a 280Z mount. The crossmember is slotted enough that should fit easily. Wasn't planning on buying it. But, it's a good option.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
when I did my auto to manual swap. I used the transmission rubber mount off the auto trans. then I made drop spacers. PS, the drop spacers had to be slotted for it to work. I tried to slot the crossmember first, didn't work lol. The mount itself needs to be spaced down 1" and it has to have slots for it to slide. Pictures of what you have going on would do wonders lol.
And just for the luls. My cat being a retard.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
I know, pics would be very helpful.
This isn't a auto manual swap. Just 4sp to 5sp. I believe the auto crossmember is different. I have one, but no rubber spacers.
The drop spacers I built are very similar to yours.

i know its not auto to manual just showing what i did.
I heard some guys say that it was a straight swap in a manual 510. i heard others say that the mounting points on a few cars were further forward...
Lots of variables :\

I appreciate the info. It's very helpful.
I've got a new crossmember, mount, and slave cylinder on the way!
I wasted like $25 on making the drop spacers and hardware.. fuuuu...
Who knows, I might need them some day.

25 bucks? oh lawd. I spent about 4 dollars on my steel. The retarded hardware is what cost me an arm and a leg. I bought the most expensive un breakable bolts known to man apparently. They got the alloys from mars

Yeah, I just hit the local hardware store since it was getting late on a Sunday and I wanted to make the mounts. .75" x .75" x 48" was like $15.. 4 bolts... $10.
On the flip side, it was really convenient.. lol
I lose.

I am going to wait on the mods you're doing. Once I see it... I'll probably have to have it.
