I know right? Suddenly the car you bought for nothing is worth a shit ton. Can't do that again. I just wonder if this high is artificial or not. How long will the prices stay so high? More motivation for me to finish my car. My problem, I like 510s. I also like wagons. So I just really don't see myself owning another old car.

Those are California prices.. and probably one California transplant in Seattle.

Although, the prices are certainly climbing. These cars are getting any easier to find.

Those are California asking prices, who knows what they actually sell for - if they sell at all.

Oh, I totally get the asking price thing. It's been a long time since I priced 510s and I know that the 2/4drs are Leno-affected. Just hadn't seen any wagons that stupid before. I'll keep a closer eye on the market and see if any of these actually move or not. Still, WTF?

and I wonder why I can't sell my 72 Datsun 510 wagon for $1600.00 / firm. :?

it's got to be location location l-o-c-a-t-i-o-n.

I've got friends in Northern California and maybe I should go visit them in the wagon and maybe I can ask another $2000.00 ( for low balling reasons ), settle for $2600.00 for a hefty little extra profit and the new owners will be laughing thinking they took advantage. :o

oh you cleaver mofo's

^ That wagon didn't sell ... WTF ... I just took another look at the thread, pictures are gone and it's locked.

Location is a big part of it. In Silicon Valley folks are asking stupid (six figure) prices for old cars thinking some geek who made a fortune at _________ (fill in the blank with a high tech firm) and will spend it like a drunken sailor. I think most of the geeks with money have better ideas on what do with their new found fortune, but it doesn't stop folks from trying. It's really kind of silly. I guess if one out of a hundred sells at a stupid price, that's all it takes to keep it up?

Another factor is, California cars don't have much rust like they have further north. Also they don't have the sun-rot interiors like AZ, unless they are in So.Cal.

Just my $0.02 worth.

Also, everything is more expensive, and therefore everyone is used to spending more for something. Its rather circular. Also there are more people, so demand goes up, and one person can "out bid" another and price goes up.

+1

Another factor is the California smog laws ... a 1976 vehicle sells for half or less what the same vehicle built in 1975 (the cut off year for smog checks) commands -- eg: Datsun 620 pickup

wonder if he gets along with his neighbors ?

back in mid September, around 2 am, a person tried getting into a car across the street from me. When I noticed he was trying the other doors, I yelled out, HEY, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING. He yells back, it's my mom's car and she locked her keys inside. I yelled back, don't you think you could try during the day time, never did get an answer back.
anyways, I called the po po and by the time the po po got their, he had split. Also wanted to mention, I contact the owner of the car and she said she didn't have any kids. Next time I see someone doing this shit in my area, I'm bring out the baseball bat and that person better have proof why he's here.

Don't see one of these grills come up for sale very often, it's a 1966/67 single headlight grill for a Datsun 520.
