Sparky's '69 510 wagon
Hi all, I just joined. I have had a '69 2 door 510 and a '77 620 in the past as well as a host of other Nissans ('80 210 wagon, '89 pickup, '95 SE-R, '11 Juke). I picked up a '69 wagon a couple months ago and am loving it.
The good stuff:
- It is pretty darned straight, no real cancer that I can see. Floors and rear deck are solid.
- Interior is decent except for the driver's seat
- Previous owner races Datsun 1200s, so he knew how to take care of it
- At some point it had an L18 swap and it runs pretty well. I have been daily driving it.
The not so good:
- The 4 speed is a little crunchy into 2nd and 3rd (though that might just be me being so used to nice syncros in the Juke)
- It had a pretty bad respray and they painted all the rubber! First yellow, then black on top of that. So I'll need a full set of door seals.
- There is some paint bubbling and surface rust
I'm looking forward to upgrading brakes and lowering it a bit, then replace rubber and get a decent paint job, then maybe someday a KA24...
Thanks for reading,
Sparky
And now a wall of pictures
Why? Why would they paint the weather stripping and window rubber??!!

Looks well taken care of. The rubber on all my quarter windows were done the same way. Welcome aboard Sparky.

That's a sharp looking goon - the yellow and black combo is the ticket.
Of course you're having a blast with it, who wouldn't?
It sounds like some tasty mods that you have planned.
Welcome to NWD

Re: Sparky's '69 510 wagon
Welcome to NWD form. Your wagon looks great, I like that the engine compartment isN'T black, black is over done in my opinion. But if you plan on installing a KA that would be a great time to have it repainted back to the same body color. It makes the engine compartment look like the owner took more time to do it right, back to stock, again that's just my opinion.
your car, your money and your time.
I'll be watching the progress of your wagon, specially when it comes to lowering the wagon.
Again, Welcome to the form.

Great looking car! Engine compartment is extra clean. I really like the gray and actually plan to do the same on my car eventually. Those Diamags appear to be in nice shape too. Definitely hang on to those.
When the only tool you have is a hammer every problem starts to look like a hippy.

Super nice wagon! .. a bit of advice; don't park it on the street. It's too clean to risk it.

Re: Sparky's '69 510 wagon
Oh yeah, I wouldn't park _any_ car on my street. I have seen too many sideswipes here. Rest assured, the wagon lives safely in the garage.
Some recent updates: I picked up a dog-leg 5 speed back in November and had it rebuilt and installed. In December I replaced the front wheel bearings, and my current project is cleaning up a set of Z 6-spokes. I like the Diamags, but since they are 13s I won't be able to get bigger brakes under them. They will be up for sale this year...
