Debris? Some parts are stained?
On the guide? Wet finger prints?
This thing is pretty clean. I've been nitpicking on this thing during smoke breaks for weeks/months. Lol.

That's the imprint the old gasket left. No worries.
I've got a lot of stuff I'm doing. Only willing to share these pics currently.

isn't it going to get messy every time flatcat changes the "FRAM" oil filter since it's upside down.510freak » Tue Feb 23, 2016 7:45 am wrote:Where the tensioner bolts on,(the oil gallery) in pic

Yeah. I hate that oil filter mounting.
Every L18 I have seen has it on the side.
This motor has 2 dipsticks also. Japanese thing?
Plan is to install this motor as a temporary thing and use the L16 I have to build something a little more 'spirited'.

isn't all L a/b oil filter's on the engine on their side ? All my Lb's are, not sure on the a's.flatcat19 » Tue Feb 23, 2016 10:33 am wrote:Yeah. I hate that oil filter mounting.

from what I've read or heard about the 2 dip stick thing was that the engine is a replacement so that the engine could be used in a trk or a car. I just checked the trks and a 510 and all were in the same location so I'm not 100% sure that's legit.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
This motor came from a 610. Is the 610 a front sump? Then the 620 is mid/rear sump?
Yeah. This is the only L motor I have ever seen with this filter mounting. I do not like it.

Was the axle buried to the hubs in a swamp or something?
The after photos look a lot better than I would have expected.

Re: Redemption? flatcat's 521
The truck used to live up in the hills of Wenatchee, WA its whole life. There have never been rubber covers over it since I have owned it.
Who knows what happens up there.
The backing plates are pretty bad too. I'll snap pics when I get around to reassembling the front brakes.
The adjusters were in bad shape. They're soaking in navel jelly in that first pic.
They look worse than they really are. But not much better than pictured. lol.

You should have cleaned up the brass retainer clips that hold them in place also.
