Wow.. that is frustrating Carlos sorry man.KamikazeGarage wrote:It still burns oil on decel, and when I give her the beans.
I checked to see of there was any play in the guides when I have the springs out, there wasn't any. Ill do a compression test now. I did one when I put the head on and it was 180 across the board. I may have burned up the rings on way to the meet, the carb shook loose thanks to the damn adapter plates 3/4s of the way to the meet.
I also took a look at the pistons, #1 had quite a bit of oil on the piston top. I suspect that one to be the dead one.
Fuuuuuuuuuck
M
Not to shove your face in the dirt ... It is why I said just slam it out .. re-ring or re-bore/machine(if need be) and just re-ring if you can get away with it on your Ratsun thread.
Compression tests and leak-down (if needed) should always be attempted and done before tearing into any unknown condition engine if you have those tools buddy . Although as we all are aware good compression doesn't mean it won't burn oil .. nah-I-mean ?
Rings can get stuck as well (not just crapped up)
I have a front bell-housing from a 3-piece early 240z transmissions I use to slap on any L engine ... pull a battery out (good charged one at that) ... bolt in a starter .... a remote starter bypass tool (cheap ones) clipped into the starter and battery itself ..... roll over on a good charged healthy battery and do dry compression checks ... if bad enough .. then wet compression checks lol. Leak down tests are priceless as well in some cases.
While you have the bottom end open ... make sure the breather in the block (the mesh) isn't all clogged to shat on you ... pcv valve as well (I'm sure you're on top of it ) ... I'm not sure if the z-series has one like the L-series does (never looked at) , but would guess it would have to have something similiar at least. I'm starting in the process of doing the very same on my L28ET for insurance... turbo's are much more touchy as we all know lol. Even though the valve cover breather/nipple is there .. I'm not personally convinced it's enough to sustain spirited romps through Kalifornia lol (it could be fine , but for my L28ET setup I can't take chances ). Rear main seal... I'm sure you've done it !
Love the car and all the pics !!!
Good luck ... keep up the work.

I expected this to happen, just not this soon. In my haste, I thought the rings were fine since the hone looked top notch.
I’ve been thinking it over, it might just be a stuck oil control ring. I have yet to do a 2nd compression test, I got 180+ across the board the first time before first fire up.
I’m tucking her away for good. I’ve got school and my DD to fix. I’ve dumped too much money into this. Id hate to sound dramatoc but its time to grow up and out of this for now. I’ve got a couple more years of school to finish, after I’ve gathered up enough money, and hopefully secure a good job by then, will I get back to this. Ill start from the ground up, again because the first time around wasn’t to my liking.
I’ve got like 10 other cars to attend to lol, like I said in the beginning of this thread, this is a never ending project.
Ill probably update this next week, or three years from now. Time will tell, but as of right now I’m leaving the car game again
Fucking priorities
(By choice, I can juggle life and Datsun but I stress too much over shit as it is.)

I'm gonna give this another shot before I re-ring this bitch lol.
I'm gonna put some ATF in cylinder number 1, and let it sit overnight. if it doesnt slightly fix the problem then.. shit lol
I could of sworn I uploaded a picture of the original compression numbers, but I'll update soon with initial comp and now. roughly 300 miles after the engine has been in.
PS: girls suck </3

Nice work! Those engine mounts are gonna be stiff! What material is that?
Im looking at making some out of 60a polyurethane. And make it completely isolated.
