Re: The "Retired" 510
Well I've got a few updates.
I sat down and came up with a list of things I want done to the car in the next ~3 months, likely much sooner though:
I fixed my fuel filler neck. I used this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/131313135727_tr ... T%C2%A0The
Basically bolt on in my case, just enlarged the mounting holes in the new neck, ground the bottom of the mount ring to match stock, cut a section of the new tube, and tighten everything down.
Filling at the gas station was a blast! You don't have to hold the nozzle to keep the fuel flow from cutting off, and it doesn't fall out. $45 fix, not bad.
I got these C-pillar vent trim pieces installed on the driver side. Still planning to get a bit better stretch on the passenger side C-pillar before I install on that side.

Fuel filler not bolted down. No hose clamp.
I didn't until you mentioned it.
What's that metal connection in lower right of pic?
I don't own a 510 so I'm clueless.

Aha, but in the last photo of my last pay, you can see it secure.
It's a fuel recirculation hose. It's blocked off/plugged up now.
And yeah, weird.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Well I'm just confused now. haha
Burn marks are from the roll cage that used to live in the car. And they look like Marilyn Manson? lol
The blown out metal on the filler neck hole was so a PO could jam the fence post with a fitting welded to it through the hole. I guess I could have bent it back when I fixed the filler... Oh well...

Haha
This car sure has come a long way since you picked it up. Keep up the excellent progress.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Updated photo of the trunk, with a proper battery mount:
Story on the trunk: I cleaned real well, as in, scraped out all the cracks and crevices, lots of seam sealer falling apart all around. I sanded some suface rust off the gas tank, didn't sand smooth, but I want to now! I then used seam sealer everywhere it needs to be and finished everything off with some rubberized undercoating. Once all that was dry I went through and plugged up the holes with these: It's a great kit because it comes with grommets as well as plugs. Harbor Freight has a similar kit for like $3, but it doesn't come with plugs. Also, the plugs and grommets have been very useful throughout the whole car. Glad I got them. I'm still missing the spare tire well, and the PO's system of covering the hole is a little shady, but it works
I finally got the wiper arm nut I've been needing, and I rebuilt the wiper linkage. It runs very smooth now:
I also straightened out the cowl panel and sprayed primer. (decided to prime things as I pull them for various tasks)
This rear view mirror came with the car, but it didn't have the base that it snaps into. A quick search told me it's a 240/260/280Z mirror:
Well I finally got that base and installed the mirror, just wish the hardware/arm were chrome to go with the rest of the back/chrome interior...
I also got the last of the suspension bushings (Crossmember and diff mount), now I just need to devise a press to get the old bushings out...
Oh, and my tail lights still aren't sealed right, found that out yesterday
If you're thinking about the GM VC gasket for your tail lights, stop.
These should fix it right: http://www.dapsupply.net/products/tail- ... de-outer-/

P.S. I'm not sure what's wrong with the formatting here, NWDatsuns doesn't like links to Amazon?

Re: The "Retired" 510
So here's this. I'm thinking about swapping it into my car, but I'm not sure how to tell if it's compatible? It's got a few places where wires were clipped, but it's still in much better condition compared to what's in there now.

Re: The "Retired" 510
Scenario: "We have a perfectly good dash harness here, lets molest it so we can splice what we need on to the shitty harness that's already installed. We won't have to pull the existing harness, it'll be totally easy. Nevermind what it'll be like to work with later, let's do it! *Proceeds to cut, hack, splice, and otherwise annihilate both harnesses*
Good work whoever that was!!!^^^
The harness is garbage aside from the connectors. But by the end of this I should have a nice harness to go back in. There's things that were done that are hard to explain because I'm not sure what they were going for, or much of the lingo.
"New" on the left, old on the right:
Some more of the mess:

Re: The "Retired" 510
SMH. I would have rather gone through the extra work to have the better harness installed.
Now they are both of questionable integrity.
