Re: Converted is back 74 b210
Well these came in today! I’m pretty excited. I went with 8” Viking 200lb springs, that have mass amounts of travel and are really lightweight with a warranty to stay within 2% or the spring rate. The sleeves are just from an eBay set, they’re a little snug tho and won’t go completely on. I have a cylinder hone I’ll probably run through a couple times and they should be perfect. Pretty happy with all that. Hopefully the rest of the parts from rock auto and amazon will be here soon too

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
So I’m starting to think a heater would be nice haha. So I took the heater control valve out and rebuilt it. It’s a shame I have to paint it... it looks so nice. Now I just have to take the heater core out and give it a clean... and swap out my heater controls. I got a new set from the junkyard picknpull because I actually broke mine the first week I got it lol

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
Hopefully it works good as new lol
I did flush the heater core and he ok it all up with a free hour I had today. My valves and new heater Control Panel weren’t where I was at tho so I still have a bit to finish later. But for now level of heat is how far I open my window. Hopefully finish in the next couple of days.
In other news... I have the rest of my suspension parts! New ball joints, tie rod ends, center link, lower control arm bushings, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings, strut too bushings, and kyb shocks for the rear. Hopefully going to get to install my suspension in the next two or 3 weeks.

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
Well I couldn’t sleep, so I painted the heater control valve and cleaned up the new heater Control Panel. Hopefully have time to put it all in this week. But at least it’s done and ready to go in.

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
Well the 5 speed started making more noise and started feeling a bit off so it had to get pulled out. I’m working on a welding project with eagle Adam so he offered to swap while I keep the welding progressing. He put better bolts in place of a few I had for the bell housing and put a new throw out bearing on. Then I helped finish out a couple details and we put fluids in and put her on the ground. The 4 speed has top of the line fluid Adam got for me on the parts run and sounds great. Now hopefully rebuilding my 5 speed and re install.
Unfortunately a couple gremlins popped up. My heater core may leak... I’m hoping for a simple fix but prepared lol oooohhh and when I got to Adams and shut my car off the charge light stayed on. It won’t turn off even if I unplug the ignition. But I pulled the positive cable, but that’s just a bandaid. I was reading and it seems that the problem is a failed part in the alternator. Luckily I think I figured out the Subaru gl alt swap after more research. Apparently I need a 100ohm 10 watt resister in line on the field wire. I’ll give it a try

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
You can get them for about $39 right now from a few sources. Is built similar to expensive ones and should do a nice job. Way better than using a pipe an obsessive levels of body work.

Haha it does do the job, but I’m ready to try a new tool for the job.
Speaking of new tools... I got a new welder! It’s the Hobart 130 and it seems perfect for what I need.

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
It’s a nice upgrade from my other welder, hopefully getting a tig at some point soon.
So today in an attempt to fix my new electrical gremlin I Put a new alternator in. This time I decided to go with a 90 amp from an 89 maxima. Pretty much just bolts right in aside from making a couple hole a little bigger, using a pulley from a d21, and an adapter for the plug. Looks good and puts out a great charge. However my car still won’t cut power to the system. With the key off coil still has power and the dash lights are only off when it’s running... I’ve traced wires under the hood and in the service manual and I don’t have a clue what’s going on. Probably going to start looking at the harness more to see if I can find the cause. For now I’m just talking the positive off when I park

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
If I were to guess I would say your stock alternator was externally regulated, while the new 89 Maxima alternator is internally regulated, the wiring system you likely have is not made for the internally regulated alternator.
The 620 trucks had externally regulated alternators till around 1977, so I expect your 74 B210 is the same, that is why I believe what I said is your issue, there was another thread I read where the engine kept running even after the key was turned off, they found if they unplugged the "T" plug on the back of the alternator the engine died, they had the wrong type of alternator installed.
It is actually real easy to wire the new alternator, unplug the external regulator, then the wire in the "T" plug going to the light still goes to the light, but the other wire needs to go to a keyed power source, the rest of the wires on the internally regulated alternator stay the same.
There are jumper wires that can be used on the externally regulated regulator plug that do the same thing, but one wire going to a keyed power source versus 4 wires being cut and wired together properly is a no brainer for me now, although I did make the pigtails and use them for a while, but something is wrong with my wiring and I could not get the dash charge light to go out, so I gave up and wired it to a keyed source and that is the way it has been for years now.

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
It was already converted to it with the plug months ago. This is some other weird issue. The harness is all hacked together. I think I may have an extra wire run from the harness to the battery with a failed diode in line. I’m going to cut the shrink tube and see what I find. I think they wired their own battery connection. When I got it I remember it ran with no fuseble link.

Re: Converted is back 74 b210
Any chance of a faulty ignition switch? What happens when you unplug it at the column?

Well I unplugged the ignition and it kept running like nothing happened. I messed with wires and it’s working right now. But my harness has some weird splices for some reason
