Got some fittings in the mail.

On the left are the hose ends for connecting the coolant lines to the turbo. Im using some of these same fittings in my fuel system.

The hose and the two elbows on the right are for the Turbo OIl feed line.

The final fitting is possibly going to be the fuel rail adapter

First time ever putting together a AN hose. Really wasnt too bad. Stretched electrical tape nice and tight around hose, cut with angle grinder. Left tape on under the nut.

First the not good news. Fitting on the turbo for the oil feed hits the manifold... So another is on route...

I made some newer sway bar brackets at work. They arent done yet, but I can certainly use them for mockup. They started life as 2.75" round stock.

And finally, something I hope to tackle today. I made myself an alignment tool for making sure the TC rods at the frame were on the car correctly. I did this because visually the pockets dont look centered on the car, by an extreme amount. So I took the LCA bolts out, and shoved in the alignment tool. Damnit, the Passenger side Pocket is off 1/2" Good thing its just tacked on. Anyways it needs to come down so I can make some speed holes in it, also drill some holes for plug welding.

Um, I haven't been able to get him to help lately. It's a sore subject.

Steel I can do. Stainless and aluminum will be at work.

Sorry not a real update. I took the passenger TC bracket down for realignment and for drilling out some speed holes. Since I bought sooo many of those Rivet Nuts Im thinking of just making the TC bracket bolt on like all the later cars are (I know B210s and S13s are). That thought literally hit me as I was typing this... It would help for a few reasons. Like painting for corrosion reasons, and the fact the surface isnt smooth.


Other than than, Probably dont expect anything for a couple of weeks. I have my eye surgery today (Tuesday), and while I will be mostly functioning by the weekend, I dont think I will be pushing to do anything too hard. You will probably get to see the finished Oil Feed line for the Turbo... yay...

Went to Canby, got some inspiration...

Realized to actually make a intake system requires an air filter, so one of those is on order.

Came home and got my Oil feed line made for the turbo. Top fitting is what I had done before, the one on the bottom is new. Its a 120deg fitting. Fits perfectly on the car which there are no pics of since you can hardly see it installed.

So, I didnt only make a hose and install it Sunday. I did that before I grabbed lunch. What I actually did was reinstall the Passenger side TC bracket, so I could start looking at the steering. Im trying to not grind anything for the next week or so.

So that is what I did.

Speed holes into the passenger bracket, like the driver side one has.

Rivet nuts. Brackets are going bolt on. And then no picture of it on, cuz you get the picture.

So after this I shoved my rack back under the car, and held in location. So I got curious about my Tie Rod lengths. Phooey. I need like 1/4" more thread on either piece. Look up Moog's database, look at Inner tie rods, next size up with the proper threads is way too long. Fine, Ill look at Outer Tie Rod ends. Would you look at that, Mid 90s Altima ends are about 3/4" longer than my current ones, that should be perfect! So those are on order. Then I went out for beers and concluded Sunday.




Today, after work I made a trip to the junkyard. Its only 8 miles from work and mostly 55mph roads. Brought the best JY tool ever made.

That was a very wise move it turned out, as this piece I grabbed was welded to the Steering shaft, and not coming out, so I cut it out. This is from another Aw11 MR2. I also scored a ratcheting 14mm wrench in the MR2.

Cut the steering Ujoint off the stock 510 lower steering shaft.

And then started mocking up the intermediate shaft from the MR2. This is about how I want it to fit the 510 steering column. And the angle the photo was taken shows the maximum angle for the U joints, not too bad...

Its a pretty similar angle at the rack side of the shaft. It was easy enough to move the rack by hand at this angle.

And I left off by ordering a bearing for stabilizing the steering column shaft right at the bottom. And figuring out what I need to machine after work tomorrow.

Had the welder at work do some more of my coolant pipes.

This port goes to the coolant return pipe. I still need to drill it through, tomorrow.

Also had him weld a bead on the other end of this (to the right).

Took apart the upper steering u-joint at work, and then bored a hole in it.

Also cleaned up the 510 steering shaft. It fits the u-joint with a hand press together/pull apart, so fairly snug. I get the bearing tomorrow, so I need to push that on first before it gets welded. It will be welded Thursday the many certifications welder at work.

Thanks guys. Its awesome, and a bit daunting as well. Sometimes it seems a bit over kill. Half of the stainless stuff I do is just because I dont want to paint steel or get it plated.


Minor update. Steering was almost gonna happen this weekend, but I cant locate some brackets I made long ago... So I cant mount the rack. Kinda bummed actually. But I did get other parts done.

A nice SKF bearing. 15mm ID, 26mm OD. Seems to fit too perfectly. The steering shaft seems to be 15mm OD, or a hint under, and the Column pipe is about .01" bigger ID. Ill clamp the steering column down on the bearing to locate it.

All back together. I took the U-joint apart to not cook it alive during welding.

Close up of the weld. Welder assured me, that isnt ever going to come apart.

And Finally I got the Filter in. Its cheap. Coil spring on the inside to hold its shape. Clamps right onto the MAF. Its a rather good size for where I intend to place it.
