I turned 39 yesterday (28th) myself.

That makes me feel better. I'm 37. Would have thought I would have accomplished more in life 3 years from 40, but oh well! Done more than the Meth heads in Spokane anyway!

Oh, I don't know that much, I just screw up a lot more than others and then have to fix it. Got a line on a 280z head I forgot about so I'm going to pick that up tonight to send a core camshaft off to delta cams for a nice regrind that will be better than stock, but won't suck like the stock cam. I have all this compression and valve spring and no ability to use it! Just need to make sure the idle qualities are good so I can use AC at idle without making the engine stall.

Got the exhaust fixed this morning, it's way nicer now, doesn't sound like crap. Also helps the O2 sensor not getting annoyed with the random pulses of leaking air it's encountering. Still odd in the am, it starts and dies once if I don't give it gas. But then the very next start, starts right up. Haven't figured out why it does that, think it might be related to the compression and the inability of the cam to evacuate it effectively. Once it's warm, it starts just like it did when the motor was stock. I'm pretty sure a decent mid range cam will help it out though.

So...Is this thing healthy enough to run and drive 140 miles?

Yep! I do still have the rear end whine, but it's been whining for a while now and when I had the diff out the teeth were all fine, bearings turned nicely, and the axleshaft bearings were fine as well so I put them back in. Nothing's leaking, just making a whine right at steady throttle. Seems a little louder now, but I also have a one piece driveline in, so I'd say that might transmit more noise than the old carrier bearing two piece.

What time are we expected at Gatoland?

And I just retrieved a P79 280z head that just so happens to have a cam core I should be able to send off to Delta to get a regrind!

Ok, so a few quick questions for the datsun inclined. For one, I solid rubber mounted the trans mount. It's fine but I have a vibration related to right around 5 K rpm. Not that noticeable in first, but noticeable in 2ND and 3rd as you approach and then gets less as you go past it. I'm thinking ita because of not having the super squishy stock trans mount. What do you guys think?

2ND issue, gear whine that goes away when I push in the clutch. Pretty sure it's from the 160 K ugly Betty trans , but there is also the rear end whine that was present for the last two years with the auto. It all seems louder now but I also don't have the center console in and a lot of noise comes through that area.

Anyway, just stressing a little about all the noises, let me know if you guys think any of these sound like they would cause an issue on the way down to gatoland. Thx!

What do you mean you solid rubber mounted the transmission?

Like the front motor mounts, rubber, but solid

At the risk of ruining the mount, could you drill holes in it like people do to urethane ones to make it softer? I'm not sure if it'd ruin the integrity of the rubber.

The whine in the clutch, maybe a throw out bearing? I'm sure you've thought of that.

140 miles to Gato, I'd chance it. Plenty of people will be there to help you IF it becomes a problem although I'm sure you wouldn't want to feel like a burden on someone's good time. Rose doesn't seem like the kind of woman that thinks she's too good to walk.

Whenever you solid mount the engine or transmission your going to get a lot of cab noise/vibrations, it's the very reason the cab body has rubber isolatetors, to cut down on noise/vibration, a while back I mounted my 520 kingcab ute on a 720 kingcab frame/chassis, I was doing everything I could to keep it as low as possible on the frame/chassis, but it was touching the fuel tank and idler arm, the truck had a lot of noise in the cab, I went thru a lot to fix that issue, I had to re-do all the body mounts from the front to the rear as the box is part of the cab now.
Solid mounting the drive train is a race thing, they are not worried about a noise/vibration at 50mph as they are only at 50mph for a couple seconds, if you want quiet/smooth, your likely going to have to use normal mounts on your drive train.

Yeah I think I'll get a louder stereo and open up the exhaust a bit more. And when I get the new cam in, she will move past that vibration point much quicker.
