I drove around with the fake rust, for quite a while ... everything worked great, but I missed the feel of smaller wheels:

... so I cut the flares off, and put the pair of Watanabes on Rusty Ruby:

I started stripping off all the fake rust ... to my suprise it wasn't eating through the old paint:

then I welded on the rear fender arches off the red 4dr: ... . definitely not a pro job, but it looks okay:

it needed alot more work ... but after tons of bondo it looked okay:



then I hand painted the roof with red Hammerite, and a 3" chip brush:

I think your welds need more heat. And stay in the puddle longer.

Thanks, it's hard to not burn through Datto sheet metal ..... and all these welds were over 3 years ago

I finally learned how to weld, AFTER I was done with the Rusty Ruby project .... still suck at welding, but I'm WAY better now ..

The rear arch has a plate welded in .. .. nothing looks pretty underneath the bondo ... this thread is a full disclosure of the body's problems:



I needed to cut the front half of the arch ... to make it fit closer to the body:

The whole 'super-sonic' line was made with bondo .... using masking tape to keep the bondo lines straight:

Needed moar cut-off wheel:

Then I used white rustoleum, with a paint roller, because I knew I could never make the bodywork look 'perfect'
