I got the door functional.
I decided to put my speakers in my home made door panels.
I don't know what hole to bring the wires out from but I'll figure it out.
I'm going in an hour to buy my speakers. Excited.

would anyone recommend spray painting under a hood?
I wanted to paint my engine bay white because I thought it'd be cool.
I have the current situation. It's ratty and looks like shit.
the other side is a paint job.
The past owner just painted over the rust...

So today, I was putting in my new radio.
I realized the past owner tucked the antena which was fine.
I then started to put all the wires together.
I had my new radio and tried it. As soon as i put it together and all the wiring, i heard a pop and saw smoke.
I literally followed every direction. I got another radio ive had for awhile and tested it.
it worked perfectly fine....

I dont know what i did but thats what happens when you buy a $25 radio off amazon.
I'ma see if i can refund it or get another one.

I also was trying to start the car.
I was doing the normal and the car wasn't starting.
I called my dad over and i couldnt see what he was doing but he said my starter may be bad.
He got the car running and said to hold off on buying stuff.
I'm currently buying braking stuff and rims anyways so nothing to really worry about and starters dont seem to be much.

I obviously wasn't able to do shit because im still learning.
and my dad just went out of town.
I'm waiting to get my rims Friday if the guy gets me a quote finally, i can get stainless brake lines and finish up the suspension.
then ill have suspension and interior done.

It''s exciting. im gonna wear out my l16 because i dont have my liscence yet and then im gonna get an l20b and do engine work once ive driven the l16 enough experience the difference between the l20 and l16

What was it doing? If it was cranking over fine, then the starter is definitely fine. Could be many things.

Basically the car wasn't doing a thing.
It wasn't cranking or anything.
I turned the ignition halfway to turn on radio and all that went well. I suppose the starter works.
Then I turned all the way and the light in my dash turned off and there was no sound.

Sounds like ignition switch? Or the wire disconnected from the starter. Dash lights turned off in start position?

Yeah the light turned off. but then it was on right before I turned it all the way.
When I turned it to the point to start the radio, it was on.

I don't wanna buy anything unknowingly.
My dad went out of town so I'm just gonna fix the small things I can and probably buy a new radio or call for a refund.

Thanks for the info.

might just be a nearly dead battery. try sticking a battery charger on it, and jumping it using the charger. if it works then, its your battery, if the same thing happens, its something else lol. starter takes a lot of power to crank on, more than your lights or stereo use, and if the cars been sitting undriven for a while its a good chance the battery's dead or dying.

OK, I am a little late here, but it sounds like what happened is that when you turned the key on, everything had power, but when you turned the key to start it, the positive or negative battery post connection went south, this is a common thing to happen when the battery posts are dirty, or the battery cables are dirty where they connect to the battery, what I do is twist the cables on the battery posts, and everything comes back till I hit the starter again.
You should clean the battery posts and cables, then everything should be good again.

Well the battery that i had was old and then i bought a new one to use.
I also bought new attachments to the battery and cleaned them all.
At first, there was nothing but then the car sat for about a day.
I filled her up with some more gas and it started up.
But it was weird how the new battery and attachments did not function the first day after multiple tries.

ANYWAYS.

I went to eagle rock and picked up some window rubbers, a new window washer pump, and my fucking rims.
I'm one happpy ass fuckin camper.

Saw a lot of cool people and shit. sick ass cars.

pics
old:

new
sorry. my friend that took the pic took bad shit.
Image
this is how far the screws were and it scared me because i thought nothing would fit.
Image
then i realized i forgot to take off the spacer the past owner put.
then they were this far out.

I need lug nuts and tires.
They're 14x6.5 +10
sadly it's not stamped on the wheel though :(

I'm happy. :fa:

lol @ the word stance... Kidding! Do it up man.

Those studs look herra long without the spacer on the wheel. IDK if the shank will be deep enough. Put them all on finger tight then shake the wheel. if it wriggles then the studs are too long... or the shanks too short... I can almost see that happening and the spacer will probably need to be used... Or if they make a shank luge with an open end.

Don't get confused or freak out by what I just wrote, either... just test the lugs on there and make sure they snug the wheel up tight is all man..

These ones will work I bet. Maybe find some this style but shorter shank.
If you measure the wheel stud, and then put the wheel on and measure the lug sticking out.
Do some math and make sure it will fit tight, I want to see what the tuck and poke looks like.

I'll be more than sure to test fit em and see how everything works out.
If they don't then i learned my lesson.
and thanks for the help.

I did do some math and I'm pretty sure I'll be alright but then again, I may be wrong.
I saw this post too late and already bought the longershanks.

If they don't work, I can resort to more math and see if these are the ones to work,
Thanks as well.

TODAY:

I put up all my speakers but I'll be posting pics in the next week because my garage spring broke and there's no good light for pics.
I never installed more than one door panel and when I did today, I measured some a bit wrong.
I only had the idea to measure and draw the holes where the clips popped in but never realized the clip hung on the boards.
So i measured it all almost 1/4" on the majority of the holes.

But I'll fix em by tomorrow.

I also made new kicker panels because of the wiring of the car.
I had one bolt missing on one door so i put the wires through that on one door and I didn't want to cut any doors so I kept the wires barely visible.
Datsuns grow older and older so why poke holes and crap.

Radio sounds fucking awesome.

about a month until I get my license and I'll be fuckin golden.
I'll hopefully have tires and shit by then.

I'm starting up the car tomorrow.

I'll take a vid and post it.

I am sure the lugnuts will be fine. But like Izzo said, you may need to run the spacer.

I did a similar thing with my door panels. To fix this issue, I got a clear plastic sheet, and held it to the door. I then sharpied where all the holes were, transferred to my panels with a punch, and then I drilled.

I did the same thing but with a sheet of paper. lol
I wish i had clear plastic.

My idea seemed inaccurate at first but then it worked out.
I just have to do all of the holes now.

Do you happen to know where I could get clips?
I only have my old ones and i got some new ones that were too big.
I squished it a bit with a pair of pliers but it didnt seem to fit tightly like the original clips

Ill get back to you tomorrow when I am in the garage. I got a box of clips that really hold the panels on, but the hole in the panel has to be directly over the hole in the door.

They were fairly cheap
