I've been without one for a few years now so a few more weeks won't kill me. I'd rather have it right than right now. Besides, I'll have work to do on it before I move in anyway.

I understand, but I still would be itching to get it done so I could get started setting it up how I wanted it, the bathroom/shower would be one of the first things to be done.

Not sure when I'll get to that part. Aside from the cost, I can't get all that excited about digging the trenches to T into the water and septic.

Yeah. I'd need to dig about 40-50' from the corner of the shop to reach those lines. I will, but probably not right away. I'm kind of hoarding cash right now as it is. Once my 510 is sold I'll have more money to throw at it.

Rain happened and concrete didn't. There were some tree branches that were either close to or overhanging the roof that I didn't like. I trimmed what I could but there were 4 fatties that I wanted backup for so I asked my dad to help out this afternoon. A couple came down easy but we still managed to drop one on the framing and break a 2x6. I guess better now than after the tin is up.
Image
The 4 big ones were 10-12" in diameter and 40-60' long and most were some really heavy cottonwood variant. There's a huge pile left for me to cut and stack then burn the branches. I've got a ton of tree work to get done.

Sometimes you don't know what you want or need till your on the journey, the limbs/trees might not have looked so bad in your head before the structure was there, but after it was there it just wasn't something you wanted to take a chance on.

That was exactly the case. One of the big differences between here and there is the trees. Unless you get up in the hills or plant them specifically, most of the trees are fast growing deciduous. Willows and Cottonwoods grow like weeds here. I've also got these scrubby ones that my dad calls Russian Olive but I'm not sure that's what they really are. They all have a pretty rapid life cycle and don't live a long time like Fir trees do so I need to plan with that in mind when it comes to building and fence placement. The previous owner planted most of these about 20 years ago along fence lines that have been totally overgrown making the fences unrepairable. So my plan is to do the best I can with the trees that are here now but add evergreens and take down the existing trees as needed.

Not much to report for last week. A two man crew came and dug out the footers for the hoist and buried the plumbing. I was told that concrete was scheduled for Thursday but nobody showed up. Weather forecast for next week looks beautiful so there really should be no excuse not to see progress.

Do you know what the concrete is costing per sq/ft?

Sorry, I don't. It was all wrapped in the bid as a lump sum.

I spent another 5 hours down there today cutting wood and trimming trees. Non stop motorcycle traffic was going by. That's what I probably should have been doing today.

Hadn't heard anything from the builder in a while so I called him for an update first thing this morning. Apparently he spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia so he's playing catch-up now. We'll see.

I started 2nd guessing the hoist and decided I'd be more comfortable with a beefier footer so I opened them up and then added an additional 1' perimeter for an extra 4" of thickness there.

It may not make any real difference but I'll sleep better. Other than that, no new news.

They're supposed to start wrapping it tomorrow but I'll be out of town. We'll see.

Obviously they didn't show up like they said because, why would they? I called the guy Friday afternoon and got a lame excuse about having trouble getting insulation out of Boise...blah blah blah...virus. Yes, the same insulation he needed a check for 6 weeks ago. But he thinks they'll be able to wrap it tomorrow.
Anyway, all that got done was concrete cutting. So now I have 12 slabs instead of 1.
