Little break in the weather the other day, pulled the valve/cam cover off to check it out..TDC checked out ok.
Timing gear had no marks to line up to mark on Cam Thrust Plate......No pic but Dist. drive gear was were it should be.
Nice and clean up top.
Some delays on the Flexplate but I have one in route.
Soon to drive this GoOn...

Inside looks good. Probably not that many miles on it. Is that garden hose for the PCV?

Kinda looks like someone didn't change oil quite often enough. Maybe a low temp thermostat? engine gotta be warm enough for detergents to do their job.
Not too bad tho, def seen worse. You know its bad when you pop a valve cover and the metal looks like bronze

This car has been sitting since 07...only ran a little bit to play with the new carb on it. Will be changing oil in it and DDriving this thing soon. Well the wife more than me. I have a side mirror to put on along with a Wink mirror inside.
Yeah....NEED THAT FLEXPLATE...lol Doing some other things tomorrow but I will be ready to get the motor in as soon as Flexplate is in my hands.

Well things don't always go as planned in Datsun land, that's for sure. Been talking with izzo about a flexplate....waiting on another from another guy....drove out to micros for one. Ended up being the wrong one. I still want the one you have izzo but I got a tip about one down in Salem. So me and Derek drove down.
Got to the place, new plate in hand....it's the same as the one micro had.
So Steve(Z-therpy) kept looking...still no luck. Then pointed out a L16 with flexplate and torque converter stuck on the end of it.
So he said you can have it, but its stuck on the motor...motor won't turn. So I'm thinking the worst case I have to take off the pan and remove rods and take out crank...blah, blah, blah. I was looking at where torque conveter bolts were lined up...Thought maybe if plate was out of the way, I could reach them with a wrench. The metal plate on Automatics will come off without removing flexplate. When I did this I was able to reach Torque converter bolts. Bamm! Flexplate off and in my hands.
Got to love the gOOns for hauling ability's even slammed ones.
So we got it on and motor sitting in the bay...

More work getting a flexplate than getting the car back on the road.

Wanted to clean up exhaust mani(Air tubes) but kinda in a rush to get it running. Also the front crossmember hit something once upon a time. So I will be swapping in a different one. Will address exhaust mani then...also swap in W58 L20b intake for bigger ports. Want to get it running and make sure transmission is working proper. Met a guy from Medford...Ali..? He took out a Auto and will be giving it to me for a spare.

Ok, I will add some other pics when I'm not busy wrenchin/working...But got it all buttoned up and a little test drive to the school down the street.
Drove good considering I had the Vac. advance disconnected and driver seat was kinda just sitting inside. I had to feel it move again.

Some 1st run vids...Still need to put a timing light on, had idle set high to get it warmed up quick. Also carb was all out of tune.
Running a bit better in this one...Still need to set timing. Only 20sec

Ok, well Derek came over to get the Rods out of the LZ today and I was doing some more tuning...Then I ran out of gas.
After we got gas and tried to get it going again...the fuel pump was not really doing it's job, so to the parts stash I go and get a nicer looking/working fuel pump.
Also I could not find original Alt. been apart for about a month....I'm sure I'll find it or some tweeker came by in the night and grabbed it?
So I busted out a New stock one I had stashed, when I went to Internal Reg. on my wagon.
Derek gave me a hand with some of the dirty spots...
A full wash tomorrow...It's going to be 57 Degrees
Might even polish the Wheels...Maybe.
Also did some hose re-routing.....New Vac. hose for Dist...old one broke when I did a Flex Test
Some new Hardware on the Exhaust flange and gasket.
Nice starter...
Some soon to be items from 69 Donor motor for Flex-plate...Water port and T-stat housing.(Only hole is for Temp-Sender)
Will put a single outlet on this, since I have no water going to intake.....Nipple is threaded into housing.

Yeah, every thing I check out seems to need some sort of adjustment, light switch loose, steering column housing needs some screws, not shifting into low gear on the column, needs adjustment...bent linkage? Reverse lights staying on. Brake light switch was loose on the pedal assembly. Lights in dash for turn signals needed played with and started working....didn't wash it today, but drove to the gas station and got some fresh gas. It drives good, brakes work...lol Now I'm just rambling. Frustrating but fun at the same time, just checking things out and correcting little things
The transmission could be more responsive, if it's not letting me shift into Low.....I might not be all the way into drive?, enough to move the car but Valve body might not be totally in Drive/Park/Neutral...etc? I will be taking a closer look ASAP.
Just one example....Housing bolts used where little screws should be...
Need's a new Blinker relay for the 4Way Flashers. And the Dash light for the parking brake is not lighting up, I'm sure the connection just needs looked at. Most times that's all these cars need is just some attention.

Got stuck at the DMV today for a trip permit, which ate into some wrenchin time. So no full wash yet either...lol
But she should clean up a bit more, Derek messed some vinyl stuff on the roof, but it needs a good cleaning...lots of old dirt on this thing.
And I can't wait to clean up the slots. Which reminds me about all the wheel locks I still need to remove
Dude don't loose the Wheel lock key. 3 out of 4 have locks.

Notice all that greese around the steering box. Yummy!
