Looks like it's gonna be rainy today and tomorrow so Tuesday I'll have it back up and adjust em again, hopefully be driving it to work Wednesday. And i'll probably be calling you once I get my carb stuff ordered and here banner

So I replaced the master, readjustment the backs, and the passenger side is still heating up bad. On top of that it now won't idle, just dies on me. I can feather the throttle to keep it going, but it's a bitch to do while braking. Took it for two drives and was fine started doing that halfway thru the third drive. Banner, I tried calling you but I think I have an old number. If you're free tomorrow afternoon, hit me up. I need some help

make sure you re-connected the brake booster line and there is NO cracks in it... Maybe sucked some brake fluid out.

Strange about the brake man. To bad you're not closer I'd come get er done with ya... Banner should be able to halp you get it.

Will that side's wheel cylinder close all the way?

Is the other side's working?


Lift the rear-have someone BARELY hold the brake pedal. Does either wheel spin?

Are the e-brake cables evenly adjusted?

Didn't disconnect the booster line, didn't need to. And flat, I honestly don't know on any count. I didn't mess with the ebrake but I'm assuming izzo adjusted it evenly, and on the drives it braked evenly, didn't yank me to one side or even really pull slightly to one side. Izzo, I'll have to check the fluid when I get home tomorrow, I was so aggravated by the time I got Home I didn't even think to check and see if I'd lost any. I do remember when we first started pumping the brakes before I bled.anything out of em that there was air coming out of the carb, maybe that has something to do with the idle problem?

You are quickly making me think the valve on the booster is fucked up.



Did you adjust or replace the pedal push rod at all?

Nope. Didn't even know it could.be adjusted lol

Wheel cylinders are brand new, from napa. Doesn't mean one didn't go bad, just that they are new.

I bought two from rockauto.. installed both. One wheel was fine.. the other was super fucking tight... couldn't get the drum adjusted cause it was so tight. Installed old part... not happy with it.. but the old one wasn't leaking. Just old.

It sucked.

Got the idle problem fixed, just not sure what caused it. After dicking with it for a bit, I turned in the idle screw, got it to idle at 1000-1050 rpm, it sputtered out, might surge once or twice, then dies if I go under that.

somethings off. clogged jet, vacuum leak something... It should idle down fine. It did before you replaced the master. Banner make it over yet?

Nah, he's busy today and tomorrow. And I upped the idle a bit before to about 800 cause it was barely running at 650, but it drove fine twice after the master swap. I did go back and look, and cut off about an inch of hose goin to the intake mani.

Oh, and I ordered that carb kit to swap the Weber on. Imma wait and see if the jetting on it will Work before I blow 60 bucks on a jetting kit

Well banner came over, got things pulled apart, cleaned some, greased some, bled some, put back together, went for a short drive, no heat, sweet! Banner had to take off, drove it to get gas, print off insurance cards, get some parts for the z that won't start now, felt the wheel....fml it's hot and the other is ice cold. So something's still up.

Oh, and banner a felt the axle, it was nice and cold

Maybe the cylinder is sticking? you replaced the master, i wouldn't think its that. even tho the cylinders are new, it could be sticking I guess. Pull the drum off and inspect the cylinder. Make sure the slide locks or whatever they are called are still on teh back... it cuold also maybe be shifting the cylinder causing a shoe to rub? I would think tho it would center itself next time you hit the brakes, but idk for sure.... Do the shoes all look the same thickness at a glance? Can you tell if one is wore down more than the other, or if a corner of a shoe is worn down more? When I replaced the cylinders... One shoe was worn way the F down compared to the other shoe on the same side. (that's why i replaced them, as they were not working properly if that was happening)

nah, banner checked that, he was over today. we took off the slide locks in the back, took out the cylinder, cleaned and greased both sides of the backing plate, put em back on, and checked that it was sliding decent. only thing I can think of at this point is that the drum was pretty tight getting back on, and they're adjusted all the way in. so maybe the shoes just need to wear down a little bit? it definitely wasn't as hot as before, and it went on a longer drive and up to higher speeds compared to before, but its also like 15 degrees cooler and raining, not sure how much that would affect things.

Dan man. Rain will cool the drums pretty quick so its probably the same as it was. Tho seemed to function realy well after me reinstalled it.

Only thought I have is that the drum was tight to get back on, maybe just run it til they wear down enough, not sure if that's a good idea tho

Also not sure if I'll have a choice with the z not running.
