I know... soon. So very soon.

Sometimes I am indecisive, so instead of problem solving it, I play games. I should have it wrinkled out today. Final assemble tomorrow or thursday or whenever I get the parts...

part of me really just wants to clean this motor up and run it as is.........

the timing chain looks great, cams look good, ran when pulled, just dirty with a leaking front cover.....

but then part of me is reminding myself of how easy it "should" be to tear it apart

I would rebuild it. You never know how hard it was ran before.

Another thing, IDK about those motors. but the cams look a little dirty, like it didn't get oil changes.

ive been looking at build threads and pics for a few weeks now and it seems to be a 50/50 split between what the heads look like

some are perfect and new(fresh outta the machine shop) and the other look like mine(used)

so im not sure of what to make of it. Toying with the idea of sending it to my machine shop for a good cleaning and freshness

I'd just do a leakdown with it on the stand. Pull the oil pan and measure bearing clearances.. if those are all good.. run that bitch.

There isn't much to it. Just as easy as a compression test.. except air comes from an air compressor.

Basically, you put the piston at TDC one by one. Apply compressed air through the spark plug hole with a leakdown tester. It has two gauges. One tells you how much are is applied, one tells you how much is leaking. You just determine how much air is leaking and from where. That should tell you about the engine health. Use that along with the bearing clearances and it will tell you what you want to know.

And you don't need a shit ton of air either so a small compressor works just fine.
