Just got off the phone with my dad. Seems that the "327" is actually a very tired 350 from a truck. He plans to just keep driving it around for a while but keep an eye out for a better replacement. I offered up the 400 in my El Camino and an LT1 that I have in the corner.

So I referenced a while back that I have been getting oil from a shop near my work. I've been pumping it from the drum I got from them into smaller containers and transporting it to my house that way. I'm working my way through my second drum. Should have a full tank by May.



The '35 frame got moved back to the work bay after I finished the rearend install in my brother's '36 and did a couple quick side jobs.



In between mowing the lawn and a bunch of other yard work I managed to get the transmissions pressure washed. Looks like 4 of the 5 have been opened up in the past and I'd safely guess that one of the WCs has had a full rebuild -- maybe some of the others too.


The plan is to leave 1 NWC stock and then do the input modification to the other 2 and both WCs. I'll keep one for myself.


The El Camino even got it's annual bath.

the two on the end look refreshed, the two in the middle next to the far end two, look decent too. The one closest this end looks used lol.

I need a pressure washer. I saw a cheapy one at wal mart for 90 bucks. you plug it in the wall, but having clean parts to work with would be so much win.

Gentlemen, welcome to Compound - East.

The shop is about 30x50 but part of the space is taken up by an bathroom and office but there is storage above them. It's essentially 3 useable bays and the hoist just got installed last week.


The house is right on the Snake River so boats and Kayaks can be launched from the back yard. Pretty sweet.




With the tour out of the way, I'll catch you up on my dad's new '36 project. He's been tinkering on it for the last few weeks but we ganged up on the brakes. We ended up swapping in a GM master cylinder in place of a Chevy Luv master and booster. Brakes are way better now. Now for the bad news; It had a tick in it that has developed in to a knock. It also has shitty compression numbers and a miss that can't be tuned away. Looks like it'll be getting an engine swap. I got to drive it around at least.

That is a pretty sweet looking property. Im kinda jelly.

I always liked the way the older stuff comes apart, take several bolts out and it falls apart, no uni-body or anything, makes it easy to remove the engine, but in the same respect, getting all them damned holes to align to put it back together can be a bitch sometimes.

House is insanely nice. To bad about the ford. Check the oil for barkdust, i heard that was a good trick back in the day to cover up a knock for a short time.

He sent me this pic and said several look similar. Crank looks pretty good though. Hasn't decided what direction he's going with it. Might patch this one -- might just look for another engine. The one that he's working on is just a late '80s truck 350 with unknown miles. It's pretty tired and certainly nothing special. Either way, sounds like he might just sell the truck. Says he wants to look for one with a nicer body.


I honestly don't think the sellers were trying to hide anything. They just weren't car guys. Grandpa built it 20+ years ago, drove it a bit then died. It mostly sat this whole time then grandson decided to sell it. It was a bit misrepresented (again, I feel unintentionally) but he bought it fair enough to still be okay. At least we have figured out what all the parts really are and after he sets some things straight and cleans up some rough points he'll be able to sell it as a solid, honest truck and not lose any money. It's always nice to leave them better than you found them.

I heard of using saw dust in rearends and transmissions to stop howling.
