Sorry for the lack of updates ...... I broke my laptop a month ago, but luckily didn't lose any pics

A few weeks ago I pulled the coilovers out:

With the coilovers that low, the front x-member was 1-1/4" off the ground with 185/60/14 tires and shortened 280zx struts with MR2 length Koni yellow inserts

My goal is to get that low with the airbags .... so I decided to change the top-hats from this:

to this:

Eliminating the coilover top hat, for the needle bearings, gained another 1/4" of drop:

Painted everything that wont be covered in grease:

and I had to shave the top of the bolts that attach to the bags:

I decided to switch from T3 camber plates to DP racing, because there are no bolts sticking down towards the bags and the caster will never change on its own:

The DP top hats also gained another few mm of drop compared to the thicker T3 ones:

I even lowered the bag sleeve/perch about a 1/2" ..... but it still isn't as low as the coilovers were ... :x

Image

I had also switched from 1-1/4" T3 RCA's to 1" DP racing ones I had laying around ... hoping it would make it go lower:

The 14" wheels don't fit the front anymore ... so I had to get 175/55 Kumhos on the 15x6.5 +14 Watanabes that match the rear wheels

they just barely clear the bags with 3/8" wheel spacers:

The back tires are 185/55/15, but they rub sidewall at this height ... hopefully a 175/55 or 175/60 will let me go lower in the back:

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but why did you go from the 1.25" RCA to the 1"? Wouldn't the 1.25 allow you to go lower while maintaining more of the original roll center?

Annnnd, now you've got me interested in air bags (not for the 510), how is the ride quality on bags?

I was just curious about the 1" RCA ... I will probably go back to the 1.25" ones someday. Airbags are expensive. It was almost $500 for the 2 bags and a few fittings. The air management is at least another $500. And I just spent another $150 on fittings and a water trap to finish my system.

The ride is okay. I wouldn't want to push the car in corners because sometimes it bounces when it hits a bump. It's a little softer ride than #200 coilovers, but I won't know if the bounciness is "bag transfer"" until I finish the air management. Right now the front bags are connected with a Tee fitting.

Front bags alone for our struts are $360.

I do want to bag my wagon.

If I put over 100psi in the rear air-shocks I can get rid of the reverse rake .... these pics are with 40psi in the back and 60-70psi in the front:
