Several hours today. Dissected the harness and moved some things around as well as added a couple wires and removed a bunch of others.
Image

Then I wrapped it up and laid it out just like it'll be in the car.
Image

After that I fed everything between the heater box and the firewall from the right to the left, then the front half through a hole next to the gas pedal.

And that's where I left it. My O2 sensor and knock sensor wires were just a little too short so I'll need to lengthen each one. Then hook up the interior side, mount the PCM and build the accessory panel.

Thanks. It has been a while since we've seen an update on yours.

Nothing major today. Lengthened the knock sensor wire and rerouted the O2 wire to reach. Prepped the copper oil pressure tube and connected the engine end. Replaced the gauges in the panel and ran all the wiring to the area. Indicator lights are on order. Little things add up.

I didn't recognize that motor, had to go back and read. Interesting choice on the 2.4 GM. Not a bad idea at all, and parts are easy to come by. If it was 10 years ago, I would have dogged you in a "purist" state. Lol. Now, I just don't care, even though I still have Nissan products in all mine. If I had it to do over again, there would be an LS or something in there.

I'm still pretty happy with it. Mostly just wish I'd done a nicer job the first time around.

Today was kind of a wash. Took my charged up battery back and installed it. Poked the gauge end of the oil tube into an empty water bottle and hit the key. Cranked and didn't even try to fire. Brief investigation revealed that I was losing power feed in crank position. Quick jump to another terminal on the ignition switch plug and all was well. Started but ran rough and then partially cleared up. Found miss at #4. Verified injector pulse with noid light and spark to the plug with spark tester. Bad plug maybe? Swapped #3 & #4 plugs and started it again. Still missing on #4. At that point the water bottle was full of oil and since I didn't have any coolant in the system, I quit.

Moved on to the rocker trim. I bought 2 pieces of 1 1/2 x 1/4 x 6' aluminum flat bar off Ebay. Cut to length, profiled some curved angles on the ends, sanded, polished, and attached.

I found that Mag Brite in my dad's stash with a $3 price tag from GI Joes. It's probably older than I am. I honestly didn't want a mirror finish because I think it would stick out like a sore thumb. It's reflective but mainly I just wanted to cover the holes and add a little contrast.

So it appears that some Datsun 510 wagons came with trim there, obviously I don't know much about 510s.
It looks good.

That does look good! And super clean wiring too. It looks like a sleeper now.

Thanks, guys. It'll be interesting to see how it looks when the front is back together and I can get it out in the open and get a full view.
I've been trying to put in about 4 hours a day so I make progress without getting burned out on it. Seems to be less like a chore for me doing it that way.

My indicator lights came in so I was able to put the bash together and fire it up long enough to warm it up.
Image

It still had the miss and eventually set a P0304 code and turned the fan on, so I know that works too. I took my stethoscope and put the probe on the top of each injector. #1, #2, and #3, tink tink tink. #4, thuh thuh thuh. So I took my dinkiest hammer and a long punch and gave it a few taps. The engine smoothed out, tink tink tink.
Image

I ran it up to temp and the longer it ran, the better it ran. Ran out of energy and didn't get the clutch or brakes bled.

I like that gauge layout. The addition of the little lights helps it a lot.

Also that little hammer is adorable.

Bled the clutch and brakes. Decided to balance the tires...because I can.

Backed it out and let it run for a while then drove it around for a few miles.

It's officially a driver again. Now it's mostly cosmetic.

Not much to update. I went over today and polished off a couple electrical things. Got my charge light to work correctly. Apparently I needed to run my old warning light in parallel (behind the gauges) in order to make the new LED indicator happy. I also finally installed an oil pressure switch so that warning light works now too.

My dad must have gotten bored and sanded my hood down for me.

So I moved on to the valance. I'd done some filler work several months ago so I sanded on it a bit and hammered some primer on.

...aaaand that's when I locked my keys inside the shop. My parents are out of town for the next 10 days. Guess I'll see if I can figure something else out.

Maybe the subconscious is playing a role in the keys being locked in the shop.
