Good news is, I found some touch up paint that is super close to my paint. Like I sprayed some onto my cut fender with a tape line. Only certain light makes the colors look different. But The fender is so far from being ready. Lots of prep work needed.

So actually worked on the car today. Realized the fender was stopping progress, as it needs to go before most of the front end trim stuff. Started with filling all of the holes, lower trim hole, the 3 badge holes, the bumper bolt hole, and of course the marker light holes. I started figuring out how to fill holes better and better. All about heat management today. Definitely warped the fender around the marker hole. Whatevers, learning experience. Nothing some bondo cant take care of. Also rolled the lip while I was there. Then threw some etching primer on, followed by regular primer. And I smothered some bondo onto the known low spots. Ill probably do a guide coat to figure out anything else. Definitely gonna do some high build, just because I want to.

Also primered the upper rail where the fender attaches, that wasnt looking too good. Bondoed a small spot on the new hood, that will take 2 seconds to level out. Glued my air stacks back together... Idk stuffs.

Marker hole... lots of blow through, should have kept things cooler. Didnt matter on the power level of the welder...

And the color matching... This is Nissan Cloud White next to Subaru Pure White/Aspen White (WRX color, and I did not realize it was a WRX color when I picked it)

Actually its not worth showing at current, every single picture I took with my phone it looks identical, or if anything shows the Nissan white cooler than the Subaru white which isnt the case. I will say, the Nissan white is just a tad creamier.

Its getting clear coated right meow.

Hood, sanded to 400 grit. Applied some Matte Black specifically made for stripes and stuff on cars, it barely has any leveler in it, so mountain city there. Time to wet sand that again...

Fender. The fucking Fender. I just cannot get a smooth coat of paint on that thing. The high build keeps reacting with the primers below, but only in sections. Im done with that. Coated it a final time in regular old primer. Sanding to 400 tomorrow. Then paint. So much headache for a fender thats not even straight.... Sigh.

Spook is cleared. Gonna put more clear on this weekend though...

Hood, it has paint, I like the sheen. But its not smooth enough and there are contaminants everywhere...

Fender, its painted finally. The stupid high build primer doesnt like sitting on top of other primers... But really I dont care about the fender. It wavier than the ocean. It was practice at welding. I need a new one.

I have a problem. My garage door broke. The shaft that holds the springs for the door sheared off on one end. So now its nearly impossible to open the door, which makes it difficult to work on the car. And the car makes it difficult to work on the garage...

Yea especially when its technically a double car garage...


Well I got the springs unwound, that was quite possible one of the easiest things I have done... Not sure why people fret so much... And then I removed the pulleys and springs, and finally pulled the shaft down.

I need a new shaft about 16ft in length, and a new bearing end plate... not sure where to get the bearing plate...

Um so, apparently springs are so unsafe that they wont sell anything, like the springs, or even the freaking bearing end plate retail. So I am forced to order online. Yay. more waiting. I dont get it. Its a metal plate that holds a bearing...

I am aware. But seriously it took me like 5 minutes to unwind both springs on my door. It wasnt hard, I barely had to even try... Maybe the springs are too weak for the door. The door has always felt heavy to me, but it has never fallen. The springs were each wound 8.5 times, which seems to be higher than suggested (7.25 turns).

I was glad today was much cooler than yesterday, made working in the garage bearable.

Decided it was too dark. My garage has 4 flood lights in it. As long as I can remember we always had some 65 or 75 watters in there. I had 2 lights out, so I say, well lets try something brighter... So I grabbed 2 120W equivalent Compact Florescents (23.4W actual draw). They are on the blue side of white, and hot damn they are bright. Its spectacular. Now I just need my other 2 lights to burn out so I can replace those!

Got some work on the car in today as well finally. Next post... I need to run back to the garage!

Not much happened this weekend. Friday I was sore and lazy, and I forget what else... Saturday went to the JY with a friend, pulled some 720 parts for him, came home and worked on the garage door and got the lawns mowed. Today, was lazy again recouping from yesterday being in the sun/heat all day. Did the above, and some painting today.

The front end stuff needs to be tidied up, and installed. I want to undercoat the Fender and Valence before installing. But I slathered some paint in the engine bay to get the Primer above covered up. Also a coat over the core support. Im not super worried about coverage at this point, as I have a couple of plans for the engine bay... (read stitch welding) and its summer time so not much moisture...

Also got 3 more coats of clear on the Spook. But for some reason it didnt lay smooth... (friend actually painted it so who knows...) Ill have to buff that, but with 5-6 coats it should be good.

Got the SSS grill in Primer, and then paint for now. Used the same Matte that I used on the hood. It came out better than the hood did. Still need to figure out the shiny part... Gonna hit up Autozone tomorrow to see what sort of cool paints might work...

Things to do (likely to have loads more) to get car back on the road/finish what I have started:

-Finish wiring the door locks
-Hook up the tach wires
-Add clutch switch
-Assemble dash
-Place door card back on.
-Buff spook
-clock the turn signal cancellors
-make new horn trace
-alignment
-polish/paint last wheel
-finish grill
-paint inside of fender
-install Valence
-install fender
-install hood
-clean up wiring
-clean and install grill trim
-find plastic piece for headlight alignment (needed to mount 1 highbeam)
-install grill
-install hood trim
-touch up any bare metal
-re do a bunch of things that annoy me
-fix garage
-figure out my front turn signals (read, Im not going to run amber lenses but clear are NLA).
-mount spook

and thats it since this is just a list to get the car back on the road. Dont worry, I still have many many ideas to execute on this car.

Are you shooting for Blue Lake or is there a different deadline? Or no deadline?
