I've got the same ring compressor. They work okay.

well, all my rings and bearings came in today!!!!

So if all goes well ill have a fully assembled bottom end this weekend!

and if i really get into the grove i could have a fully assembled motor!

gotta admit, im a bit nervous, this is my first time doing rings and bearings myself. Ive watched a dozen or so youtube vids of how its done in prep but execution has me with butterfly's in my gut

I'm sure it was the same first time you pulled anything apart, even a motor.

After you do it once, your confidence will be up and you'll never have that feeling again. Can't wait to see pictars.

You'll be fine. Check your clearances and thrust. After the crank is in (and oiled), spin it. You'll know if it feels right or wrong. Give it a spin after each piston too. Should get progressively harder, but not difficult, to turn due to the drag of the rings. You'll know if something isn't right. No need to over think this. Just use logic and trust your gut.

You'll probably need to retry hitting the pistons in a few times, which means resetting them in the ring compressor (dont forget to lube the ring compressor too). I failed my first 2 hits. Third hit and piston 1 was in. The rest of the pistons were 1 hit each.
I used the handle of a hammer to knock my pistons in. 1 quick hit, the rings CANNOT expand before entering the bore.

Its really not hard. You just have to follow directions, and steps, making sure everything is good before proceeding. If you are patient enough to take measurements, you are good to go.

Also, make sure the pistons are in correctly.. meaning the marks are pointing towards the front of the engine. I'd reference the FSM on direction and all that. Actually... I'd reference the manual for every step.

You'll be amazed how easy it is to drop the pistons. When building a motor, dat-zen is the name of the game. Keep in mind, a free spinning bearing is only half way good. You should use Plastigauge to check the actual clearances on your new crank and rod bearings to make sure they're properly sized. Especially if you've had the block line bored. it's a bit time consuming, but it's a cheap way to insure your investment. Trust me, having that peace of mind is priceless.

I appreciate the support fellas :)

In all honesty I wouldn't have started the project if I didn't think I "could" do it. I've bought all the right parts, tools, and had all the right pieces checked out by a pro...

I've got an actual Nissan FSM for the 240, and I've read it

But something about this particular part of a rebuild is new, therefore foreign...

The one part that is bothering me is the "correct" placement of the ring gaps and keeping them that way while installing them in the block

Offset them, they won't move much when installing into the block. Make sure the rings are installed in the correct ring land and also there is a top and bottom to the ring. Especially the middle one.

lots of good advise on this page. Just remember to go slow when assembling, it's not a race to see how fast you can get it together. One thing I want to mention is when you got the rings compressed on the piston, in the ring compressor is to keep the ring compressor's bottom edge tight up against the block when you tap the piston into the hole.
If by chance the ring slips out of compressor before entering the block, stop and reset the compressor on the piston.
and it's been mentioned, oil the side of the piston or ring compressor before compressing. Don't need to over oil either.

:D

Any random placement of about 90% offset will do. Really this is not super important, because the rings will naturally migrate in rotation when the motor runs. Make sure your ring gaps are correct and you will be fine.
