I was told Ted's was not in great shape. I thought about grabbing it.

I don't know if I could dig the camper.
I like them on other 521s though.

Thinking out loud here...someone convince me to not do a KA-E swap.

Um, its not for the faint of heart. Pre buy everything you can.

At least you are not doing turbo.

Kevin and I were going to start on the L18/5speed swap here soon.

Neighbor is doing an SR swap into his 89 S13.
That, and Redeye just announced that he is now making 521 KA mounts.

Also collecting 4 wheel disc brake parts now.

I drove Kevin's KA'd 521. Holy hell!

I say do it. i dont like carbs, and like motors that cold start. Ill take EFI any day. And a KA swap is easier efi than adding efi to a L series.

I don't hate carbs but I do like cars that start and run good in any weather. KA is pretty well documented (cough everyone has one cough) so there shouldn't be much mystery in the swap. They seem to work just fine.
If I owned your particular truck, I'd stay L. But I don't. You do.

I love KA truck engines so you won't hear a no from me. I'd rather have the KA-E over the KA-DE in my sons 510. I think either way you'd be satisfied.

I've often wondered how hard it would be to make a vehicle easily accept the KA & L with minimal work (quick swap kinda thing), i.e., 2 separate wiring harness plugs on the firewall with each engines harness able to plug into, custom mounts that would fit either engine, and a driveshaft for each. I'm probably missing something else too.

Be kind of a sleeper and cruiser in the same car.

Wahgina.

Anyways...I have come to a decision about direction.

Scrapping the KA idea for now. L18/etc is the goal.

I have all the L parts. Very little to purchase. This route will have me on the road next year.
Goal is drive a Datsun to Canby and where ever else I want to go.

I suppose if you have the L18 then that would be the way to go without spending money, but if your going to spend money, then LZ23.
You drove it to Blue Lake and back, seems like what you have will get you where you want to go.

Who knows something about webers?

I have a 32/36. Electric choke. Choke hooked up to (+) lead of coil.
Carb was new when I bought truck.

I have never had a problem with drivability. When warmed up, if I come to a stop, idle is high.

I've also been going through gas pretty quickly.

I have done nothing to carb or anything else. This is a new thing. Happened out of the blue.

Fuel injection. I hate carb.

Sorry, no help.

I have very little experience with Webers. I'd check the obvious basics -- which you probably already have. Might just be a failing choke coil. On a side note, it's not ideal to wire an electric choke to your ignition circuit. If that choke shorts out you lose your ignition too.

I will find somewhere else to wire it to.

Fucking Sergio!!!

I think I might have found what's wrong with my carb.
Every mounting bolt/nut/stud was loose on my Weber.

Running errands now so I can't test.
One of those errands includes getting smaller wrenches from work and some lock washers from Homer D. Poe.

Report back soon.

He sure has. But it's also nice that I have a built-in scapegoat.

During a talk I had with Wayno at Blue Lake he wondered if I was running lean in relation to my overheating.
Well, turns out I may have been lean the whole time.

I'll warm it up and toss it around the block later on. Not a lot of time to at tonight.
Kevin will be but later. I'm working on his Subaru this evening.

Carb and base plate installed. Loctite and lock washers, FTW.

Had to adjust cable. It was too tight/throttle partially open. Idle smoothed out, runs great. Awesome response see.

Tossed it around the neighborhood. Seems to be running pretty normal.

I bet my neighbors hate me. This thing is so damned loud.

Loose mount vacuum leak would explain a lot of things.
