So im putting in new bushings on shifter. Take lil clippy off and it goes fly in.
Time to take out seat and see what monsters are living underneath it.
The old shifter boot finally gave up...so I bolted a rag in its place for now.
Found my spare set of Honda keys. Some wd40. Pair of scissors. A Phillips screwdriver. A roll of black tape. Some bank receipts. Some old rags. AND NO FUCKIN C CLIP!!
Found c clip a few minutes later on tranny crossmember.
Oh well I guess ill vacuum and clean shit up.

Got mah L20 up on engine stand today, witht he help of Neil and Fernando.
Then i got inspired and started tearing into it.
Oh yay, it had no thermostat
Yeah, I would say its a little crusty in there
Crap, I was hoping for another peanut head
The HG was blown up by #1 cylinder and obviously it sat for a long time in this condition.
So, I am going to pour some oil on the pistons and see if they will free up in a few days or weeks when I get back home. I only need the block as peanut head will go on it with the manifolds that are on L16 right now. The oil pan fron L16 will go on L20 and the oil pan from L20 will go on my sons truck in order to fix oil leak.

holy jesus fuck. I've seen motors like that before. Fun shit ahead of you my friend.
I would dis-assemble everything but leave the crank/rods/pistons in it and just drop it off at the machine shop. Tell them make it new, along with the head... Then re-assemble when it gets back. Good to go.
3m roloc discs work amazingly on gasket surfaces, and some are safe for alum surfaces... meaning easy as fuck gasket cleaning. PS. Some of the best cleaner I have ever used is LA Awesome at the dollar store. 32oz. Spray on, scrub with brush for a second, spray off. Works as good as any brake cleaner or other shit I've used. I can't believe how good it is.
It got the 1/2" goopy half dried nasty grimy oil shit off the side of my truck motor.

I think that is what I am going to do Tim.
I am not worried about the head but, won't hurt to have a reconditioned w58 and u67 layin around ya know?
I want the block all clean and pretty when I drop it into the truck.

Meh, w58 is... w58... Stock smog head. If you are going to dump money in a head, I'd just do that U67. Better breathing head. pull the valves off the w58 and set them aside for a rainy day. they can be re-used... I'd scrap the head. but thats just me!

Oil drained from pumpkin. Truck on stands. Tires off. Axle nuts off. Drive line and 3rd member bolts next!
I can tell this 3rd member been swapped before. Axle nuts not torque to specs.
That 720 we got 389s from were a bitch to get off. These I just barely tapped the wrench a couple times and off they came.
Anyways back to work and pics!!

Not too bad on take off. Little more clutch but I can go all the way across a 5 lane intersection and then some before shifting into 2nd.
So much win!! I love it.

Shits gutless now...
Nah, I'm kidding. Pickup isn't as much as before, but with a little clutch it's off with no problems with the 1600.
And the brakes work now too! Look at the shitty fluid that came out...
and the 4.88 3rd member... aluminum ooooh!!

Don't scrap them 488 gears, some race guys will want it, circle track or drag strip, you should be able to get $50.00 for it easy.
