Just took a deposit on the motor in my truck, will get it pulled this weekend. Didn't get beat up on price either.

I guess I am going to learn the ways of the LS motor now. Really looking forward to fuel injection again, and hopefully better fuel mileage.

Hoping to find a L33/4l60 combo. The L33 is an aluminum block/head 5.3. Would like to shave that extra weight off the front of the truck.

But, I just might settle for any generic 5.3/4l60 combo to keep the project rolling. I can always upgrade to a 6.0 in the future. It will all depend on what I can find at an acceptable price.

Thats a tough call right now. I really want to do the cam/intake while the motor is out, but on the other hand, I kinda want to leave it alone and see if I can achieve the 20+ mpg's that people are claiming with the LS motors.

What I really want is a complete running conversion, once the bugs are all worked out it is easily upgraded later.

I have never had an LS1. My dad did have an LT1 in his 94 Z28. He was able to pull over 20mpg using it as a daily. It dropped around town, and especially on the back roads

IDK what the differences are on the motors either tho. haha.

Might have located some parts I was not planning on buying. Complete LS1/4L60e car getting parted local to me with a hole in the block. I am thinking that the LS1 intake and heads just might get installed on a 6.0 block.

That should be a good combo. If it's an early LS1 the cam should be an upgrade over the LQ4/LQ9 too.

Well, there seems to be a little progress on this now. I have purchased the LS1/4L60e that I mentioned a couple posts ago. Now I just need to find a suitable block to install all the LS1 goodies on.
Pic of hole before I started cleaning, I bet somebody at the local self serve car wash would like to strangle me.


And after a bit of cleaning.


Trans had a decent film of goodness over it also, all cleaned now.


Everything on the top end of this motor looks good so far. So now I just need to find a block that I want to use.

I use "AWESOME" from the dollar store. It seems to do the job very well, doesn't seem to be as harsh as "purple power"(more on that later). Annnnd, it's only a dollar for a 24oz bottle with a sprayer or a 32oz "refill" without the sprayer.

It also works quite well in a solvent tank. But it does evaporate, therefore needing refilled. Still cheaper than solvent but definitely does not clean as well as true solvent

I have used the common "purple power" that so many people seem to like. It's rather expensive, and I am fully convinced that it isn't compatible with rubber seals of a drivetrain. Every vehicle that I have used it on leaked much worse when done while developing multiple new leaks.

Is it the yellow stuff? Called LA's Awesome? I use it too. Works so good. Buck at any dollar tree. Sometimes they have the "Refills" basically a bigger bottle with no sprayer on the top and just a lid. I buy 20 bucks worth at a time.

I use red brakleen.. it's great. It's fucking expensive.. and it's hard on your lungs. Use with caution..

I have used my fair share of brake parts cleaner too. I only use the 3M brand anymore. Seems to have the least harm smell, and also works the best. Just have to find it on sale(usually $2.59) at Napa though, cause I'm not paying full price($5.29). Even then, I use it very sparingly. Wife hates the smell of it too. She reminds me every time I even squirt a little onto a rag.

Small progress, been working a little on the fuel tank. Building a small sump onto the bottom of the in-cab tank that will gravity feed a frame mounted high pressure pump. Wish I knew somebody local with a TIG that would happily weld on a fuel tank. I will get the job done myself with a MIG, just wont be as pretty as it could be.

Ya, it is closer to the flange/seam than I originally intended. In that picture, the flange is actually "massaged" backwards a lot in order to get in there and weld. Will have to be bent back to original placement to even bolt into the truck. There will also be a 1/2" pipe thread bung welded into the end of the sump. Should have that in the mail tomorrow.

I guess I haven't really keep this updated at all.

Just put the first five miles on this swap about an hour ago. 2am on a Saturday night, bars are closing, cops are thick, wasn't driving it very far.

So far runs great, haven't been of about 30mph yet though. Save that trip for tomorrow when I head straight to the gas station.

Even my electronic speedometer conversion works good, not sure about accuracy yet, but it is adjustable through the computer tune. Ohhh, and zero codes in the ECU except for the emissions stuff that I deleted and have not removed from the ECU yet. ECU tune will happen soon though.

Fuel pump is louder than I want it to be. Might have to address that, might just get used to it.

Well. The next test drive after I put that first five miles on at 2am didn't go so well. I promptly decided that 3rd and 4th gears were not going to work anymore.

Pulled the trans and had it rebuilt with all the new hardened steel parts where 4L60e's are known to fail. Reinstalled trans yesterday afternoon.

Runs good, shifts great now.

Need to get the exhaust properly reconnected and figure out why my fuel guage is not working.

Pretty sure I am going to have to decide on a brake/tire upgrade before too long.
