Worked on the Neon this morning. Finally fixed the messed up blend door that's been bugging me for 8 months. Now I can finally have cold AC out the vents instead of on my toes.
Going to see about getting a new windshield installed next week. Pits and sand scratches are pretty bad when driving in to the sun.

AC will be needed!
When we were out on the prairies last summer,it was one of the hottest on record for them, The ac was full blast all the way.

Yeah. I can live with a lot of those little idiosyncrasies that come along with an old car but it technically belongs to my daughter so I really should get it up to snuff. The windshield is a safety thing, as were the tires I put on a couple months ago. I've put a ton of miles on it over the winter but she'll be home from school in a couple more weeks and wanting it back. I'll miss the mileage but it's time to find my own replacement.

Glare in a pitted windshield is the worst, The mileage is good, especially now with fuel prices.

Neon windshield replaced.
Looked at a bunch of Matrix/Vibes over the last 2 weeks but passed on all of them.
My dad lost #2 exhaust lobe last night on his El Camino so watch for future work on it in a week or 2.
Image
Also forgot to post a couple weeks ago, he finished up his winter boat project and we did some lake testing.

And work continues on the house...slowly.

I grabbed a couple items for my TW that are reportedly worthwhile upgrades. First item was an LED headlight bulb.
Image
This was 2-fold. First, the original bulb wasn't that bright. Secondly, these don't have a very robust charging system and I've found that while putting around in the hills with my high beam on it sometimes couldn't keep up. Its a single phase system and I guess they need to be revved to put out much current. This new bulb is supposed to only draw 3A compared to the H4's 5A. Hoping this helps. It's noticeably brighter and I can see light off of other objects in full-sun daylight.

The other item is some 1.25" bar risers. I'll need to do a day ride to see if it's a big payoff or not.

I'm picking up the Rainbro Warrior this weekend and already have a small pile of parts for it too.

While I was working up there this afternoon, brown dog managed to chase a prairie dog under the stairs in the basement. It's in a spot I can't physically reach so the doors are open and hopefully it'll find it's way out tonight.
Image
It would also appear that we've got a fresh batch of disposable mouse traps. Caught a pic of this one yesterday while it was hunting and saw another smaller one with similar markings a couple nights earlier.
Image
Stood on the deck for a few minutes this afternoon. The breeze was just right. Can't wait to unpack the hammock.
Image
But not for a couple more weeks. Tonight, it's me and brown dog drinking cider and eating some sloppy nachos at the single-wide.

I'm getting excited -- just don't want to get my hopes up that it'll be done sooner than it probably will.

Rainbro Warrior update: Road trip to Portland to bring it home yesterday. Today I spent a couple hours cleaning it up (it was filthy) along with some maintenance and upgrades. It already had bar risers, I added larger pegs. I removed the bark busters because I probably won't need them in my area. Also adjusted the chain and all the cables, lubed everything, replaced the air filter and changed the oil.
It looks better in the photo than it actually is in person. I'm going to attempt to refinish the plastics, replace the seat cover, and look into having the rack powder coated.
My plan is to keep this one as a spare/loaner for when friends come in to town to visit. My '96 is still too nice to share.
Image
All of the maintenance was pretty badly needed. The air filter is the dry style that someone had heavily coated in Uni oil then RTVd it to the housing. Dumb.
Image
I had ordered up a set of bar risers not realizing a set had already been installed. These are the style that can be pivoted to move forward and back also. The set I ordered are just spacers to raise them.
Image
And if you were wondering why I've repeatedly mentioned pegs as an upgrade, just look how dinky the stock one is compared to the replacement.
