^^^Oh yeah!

Engine still has a bit of smoke out the exhaust, but really only on hard acceleration. The smoke is white, and most definitely coolant. I started to notice it the last few times the car has been ran. Gonna see if the part stores rent leakdown testers, but already starting to prepare myself for pulling the head and doing the gaskets. Will probably throw a new water pump and timing chain on when that project gets started. I'm just excited to be able to take care of all that with the engine still in the car. Last summer I did the HG's on the Subaru, no doing that one with the motor in. Well, maybe, but not recommended. lol

All that won't go down for another few months. Probably after we move into a new place. Don't really want to start another project with the limited time I have in our current living situation. But who knows, I might just quit my job soon, and then I'll have some free time.

I bent up this heat shield earlier, it's crude, but works great. Before I could feel a TON of heat coming off the intake tube and knew it was because the filter is so close to the manifold. Now the tube stays nice and cool.

Good idea.

Just one more thing from me today. I got an oil catch can in the mail. I quickly turned it into a coolant reservoir.



Bolted the reservoir to a steel plate, then slid plate into washer bottle mount location. Added some rubber insulation behind the plate and done.

And it seems like after I painted the valve cover (which needs repainting now), everything else came blue. As you can see by the intake elbow piece, I'm trying to move away from blue. But hey, I'd like for the car to be blue one day anyway. Hahaha, I don't know what's going on.

Dropped it off at the exhaust shop this morning, now I anxiously wait for the call to go pick it back up

I'm mostly happy with it, though they could have sucked the exhaust up much closer to the body. Exhaust is definitely it's lowest point now.

Desperately needs an alignment.

I also noticed the engine doesn't backfire at all with a full exhaust. It pulls nice and hard through all gears, I'm happy to report that this 71B trans is way healthier than my Subaru's trans. It takes a little extra effort to get into the gears for the first 15 minutes or so, but once it's warm it's pretty smooth. I'm already starting to feel like I need more rubber on the ground. Anyone ever put a 205 tire on a 6" wheel?

This warm weather really made the slight HG leak into an over heating issue. Even with an extra fan pushing from the front, I couldn't keep the temps down. I'm leaving next month down to California for a little while and I want to get this taken care of. Think I may just do the head gasket, timing chains, water pump etc before then.

I'll get to work tearing the thing apart asap.

Backtracking...

Knocked this all out so far. Cylinders one and two are looking pretty oily on the exhaust side. Working on the intake manifold now. Some of the bolts are hard to get to! Who's got the tricks?

That intake manifold is an absolute beast. I've decided there are no tricks to it. Your hand either fit where they need to or not. Lol















If you look closely, you'll know why radiator stop leak and similar products are not a good idea...

So far everything seems alright, but I noticed two small indentations on piston 4 that were definitely caused by the intake valves.



Head is going to the machine shop asap. Going to have them do the valve guide seals, resurface gasket surface, possible leak test, and I might bring a couple intake valves with just in case they're needed.

And now I'll be needing some parts before it all goes back together.

Pretty sure I've said this before, but just for anyone who wasn't listening...fuck Nissan.
