I ended up going with a 3M product for the seam sealer, now just need a dry day.


I finally got tired of chasing down the windshield leaks and ordered new seals for the front and rear glass, and a headliner. figured I should tackle it all at once.

I also pulled the old horn out of my part stash, cleaned the power and ground connections, added fresh wires an got it hooked up. Apparently I switched the power and ground up and it it blew the fuse during testing. I didn't think it mattered, I mean the wires are both green? Anyway, I switched the wires and it works flawlessly. The Datsun horn button I got off Ebay looks and feels like a happy meal toy, but it works!

I should have my zx struts on Tuesday, and I'm looking into fixing the track width issues that will come about. 14" wheel with +0 offset should clear just fine, right? I'm more worried about the track width, so my latest inner conflict is whether I should use wheel spacers, or adjustable LCA's. As far as studs being stressed further from using a spacer, is this an issue with the lightweight 510? Because of that thought, I'm leaning more towards the LCA's, but I'm looking for a little input. Anything to worry about with LCA's?

In my opinion, longer suspension arms are always better. Geometry doesnt change as much with height changes.

That said, most people run 15x7 et0 on ZX struts and it sits really nice.

I'll definitely wait until the stuts are on before I make a decision, but I'm most likely getting some adjustable LCA's. It's a shame though, since they'll probably never be adjusted after they're set....

I'm getting into the headliner and window seals today. I'm pretty sick but I can't stand that bed rest bull scrap. Haha.

Windshield is out, but the bottom corners are rusted pretty bad. Anyone have a solution?

It's not super bad. And in fact there is a hole there factory for some drainage. I would just use some rust converter, and a decent paint. Be happy. Keep note of it for the future.

That said, you may not seal your windshield perfectly and get a leak. I highly recommend a tube of CRC? Liquid butyl rubber.

I just grabbed some of the CRC stuff. After I posted the photo I realized at least part of that hole was supposed to be there. Haha

Turns out, this is a tough S.O.B. I'm about 70% through with the headliner, just a bit more stretch, then glue, then pillars.

I ended up getting the rust treated, filled, and smoothed. Hoping to get a nice seal out of it.

Stupid me for thinking I could get this done today. It's gonna look good, but still wish I didn't have to do it. I'm anxious to see this finished, it's just about the last touch to the interior of the car. Now need to source some sun visor frames.

ohhh, they're coming. Not sure how worthy the work is, but it's a hell of a lot better than before. Photos might have to wait until tomorrow though...

Thanks guys! I'm not unhappy with it, I can definitely see this being a disaster job if enough care isn't given. I tried to remember the tip: "don't trim until you're you're sure where to trim", I guess I forgot in one spot, oops. I still have enough to cover the wheel wells and sun visors, but I think I might want more of a red/maroon so they match the factory trim.

Car is looking much fresher with the rubber seals on the glass, but the chrome trim is proving difficult to reinstall. Anyone have tips?

Now I'm just waiting on another free day to install the zx struts. They have all new, pads, rotors, and wheel bearings. Just need the coil over hardware off my current struts and they'll be ready to roll.

Soapy water works too. But always good to have a can of silicone spray around.

Yep^^^ that's what I used. At first I was worried about getting liquid inside the trim groove. Once I realized it didn't matter at all I went to town. Even paid a friend to clean and polish the trim. It's looking good now.

I'll get with you soon, Draker. (for the column). Just too much going on at the moment, hoping this weekend I can make time.

Oh man, while I was doing it I swore I wouldn't do it again, even for $1000. haha
My hands and fingers don't appreciate that type of work.

I got the ZX struts and everything installed yesterday. I immediately felt the difference in braking when I drove, very nice.

New rubber feels so good, I can't say enough about how nice a waterproof car is. lol (still need one wiper nut)

I also put 1" foam underneath my plywood parcel shelf, and I sandwiched more foam behind the back seat. The sound deadener on the floor did nothing compared to the foam behind the seat.

I don't think I've shown this cool, old autocross sticker before...

Apparently I have the steering knuckles that take the 11mm ball joints, so my replacement joints didn't work. Guess I need to source some new steering knuckles...

So I've got way too many spare parts laying around here now. I really only need one spare of some things... I'll be putting some free classifieds out.
