9.7 with a slight cam sounds perfect.
Yea, Jess' motor was like 10.7 or something with an open head. Such a bad idea. It was pig rich to cool it down. And leaner and it probably would have put a hole in the piston.

I remember uberkevin and I taking a trip there. I couldn't even be near the garage because of the raw fuel hitting exhaust smell.

I was told by more than one person that what I put together had a 10.8 to 1 compression ratio, Z20s block with flat top pistons and a W53 closed chamber head with stock valves/hardened seats and an RV cam.
This W53 head on a L20b block with the RV cam didn't work well for my work truck, so I made an LZ23 to replace that engine.
Then this work truck engine went into my 520, I was unhappy with the power, so I took this W53 head off and put a 219 head on the block and I was slightly happier, then one day Dmike posted a photo of the L block cam timing, and I figured out every freaking engine I had was off at least one tooth, so I changed all of them and every engine had more power, but I ended up with a knocking issue in the work truck, it is timed at 0 degrees BTDC, I never thought of just deleting the vacuum advance.
So the W53 head was just sitting around and I had the Z20s block in the storage shed, I thought it was just some regular engine out of an 81 Datsun 510 wagon, so I decided to make room in the shed and scrap the Z20s, when I got the head off and seen the flat top pistons I measured the rods and they were 6 inches(152.something mm), so I decided to build this engine with the W53 head with the RV cam as the RV cam does nothing to help torque, but I figured it might help with HP on this Z20s block, so here I am now.
I have around 9 engines around here that are not in anything, I believe all but one will run if I put them in an engine stand, the VG30 did run when Mike Klotz pulled it from the 200SX, but it has sat around for a long time now, it still turns but I have no way to set it up to run it as I know nothing about computer run engines or how to wire them, so it is the one that doesn't run.
