Reminds me of when I was in my 20s, for most my life I never had a concrete driveway to work in when I had to work on my cars, it was always unimproved ground, I preferred the grass myself over gravel, it was more user friendly on the back.

Don't spend a dime on that dogleg 5 speed, they are hard to work on, and not meant to move heavy vehicles around, it's not stuck in third for no reason.
You might be able to remove the front case to pop it back into neutral, but I am happy not to be there when you do that, I only took one dogleg apart ever, and it was a pain in the arse to separate, and pieces fell out when I finally did get it apart, these little brass things fell off the gears, and I looked at it and wondered what held them in there in the first place, but that was the first transmission I ever separated in my life, I know a lot more now.

What color is the gear oil?

gear oil is kinda gross looking, but not too bad. it was replaced a few years ago. but has since turned to shit.

Ran out of gear oil filling it up. i will grab a bottle next time I goto the store. All back together, on the ground and runs like a top! Took it for a spin down the road and back. Went thru all the gears with ease. She's ready for the road again.

Make sure it's GL-4 ONLY. The off the shelf GL-4 / GL-5 stuff will turn your brass syncros to feces.

Yeah.

I looked all over, nobody has just GL4 rated stuff.

I ended up with a bottle of Valvoline 80w90. It didn't say API-GL5 on the front, but on the back it says it meets and exceeds that of Gl4 and GL5

There is not much of a selection here lol

All hypoid differentials (conventional and limited slip) and manual transmissions in passenger cars, light trucks, sport utility vehicles, vans and heavy-duty trucks where an API-GL4, API-GL5 or MT-1 fluid is specified.

dats wha the bottle says anyways :\ Fuck. Well I'm shit out of money. So guess it will set for a few weeks.

Won't hurt in the short run but keep looking for "Yellow metal compatible or safe" GL5 exceeds GL4 but that doesn't mean it's better for it. GL5 contains more of what makes it bad for your transmission.

Differentials have different gears for transmitting power through a 90 degree bend and requires a much stronger EP rating and anti scuff formula. Transmissions transmit in the same axis and their gears are also different.
