Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
Had a little bit of time today...
So the L16 down pipe wouldn't clear the engine. I had to hammer some flat spots in the pipe. Good news is it clears now. Bad news is I fucked the gasket up beyond usability. So I'll stop for tonight and get a new gasket tomorrow. So close...

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
man that thing sounds amazing.
good job.
PS, find a rubber gasket, or just use Permatex The Right Stuff, its black and you don't even need a gasket. Just run a bead around the pan, and install - its install when youre done running a bead... you don't have to wait to install it, redye from ratsun showed me this stuff. It's tits.. Remember, only 5-7lbs of torque on the oil pan bolts. no more.

I've got a rubber gasket now.. just need time to get it installed. I torqued every bolt with a torque wrench, 5ft lbs. Cork is shit for the oil pan.

Got this thing running again. But I found a leak in the weber accelerator pump diaphragm. Has about 400 miles on it so I'm surprised it already failed. I found someone with a used one locally. I'll run that for now.. SU's on the way.

Here is the accel pump diaphragm.
Idle set, timing set, carb tuned.. (still waiting for replacement diaphragm.)
Re-wired clock. It actually works now and the illumination turns on and off with the headlights.

Hot compression numbers on rebuilt engine after 5 miles. Looks good!
No more brown rust sludge.. I'll flush a bit more and actually put coolant in int.
Plugs are looking good!
Clock illumination!

damn that looks good. if you replace those regular lights with lights from superbrightleds.com they will illuminate better and not blind you.
i can provide a link if you're interested.

Get these in cool white for your back light. (Cool white does pretty good, obviously get other colors if you want lol)
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... t-car/199/
Also, if you remove the little green plastic covers where the lights go it will be even more bright. You will lose the green effect unless you picked up the green lights. I have pictures of the difference, but it's even more bright and clear in person, but don't be fooled! It's not so bright it blinds you at night.
And then these for your dummy lights. (red for red dummy lights, etc)
https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... t-car/197/
be prepared to be amazed!
I think the turn signal indicators on certain dashboards are a different type of bulb instead of the wedge based ones, I'd need to see what they were before being able to tell you which ones to grab.

Re: The forgotten Beige 69 510 build - NWD edition
After swapping to the L20 I thought I should check hood clearance. Looked to close for comfort..
Slotted motor mounts. Only one pictured.. the other was ugly and not fit for public consumption.
No post shots of clearance.. I fail. But lets just say I have a little more than double the clearance now.

I could tell the valve cover hit the hood at least once when starting.. So I thought I should check.
