Not really a project. Apparently I'm a soccer mum meow.
Bought a 1998 Silver Volvo V70 wagon w/automatic , and 168k ? ( I think... lol ).
Needs the engine pulled and replacement engine installed.
I know the transmission is in good shape other words that could have been interesting lol.
The body is pretty straight , and the usual quirks are present.
I know I'll end up dealing with the smog codes or pump or whatever codes it had been throwing. ( quality NEW German pump appears to be $380 + $100 check valve , and a rebuilt pump is $140.00 + send back old pump ,,,, blah blah blah etc etc ). Catalytic converters arn't too much , but will get it running then see !
Brother was kind enough to let me store/keep it at his place until I make space for it (very soon) , and possibly do the engine switch there.

Picked up a replacement engine.
Has Hydraulic timing tensioner system with a 148-tooth T-belt.

Popped off the top cover to verify.

A very good time to at the very least replace the T-belt and water pump me thinks.
However I did order the T-belt kit , and water pump all together.

Exhaust manifold is the same as the one in the car.
Has a little "smoosh" at the flex-pipe area.
Haven't decided if I'll use the old one or use this one.

Replacement engine had these painted on the fuel injector cover (compression numbers).
geeee ... I hope they're true ..... lolol .... would be cool , but not holding my breath.
Seems like they had a hard time deciding what numbers to write down.... lol
:fry:

Picked up a spare alternator with the engine just in case kinda thing.
Image008 by 71240z, on Flickr

Took off the cover to see what kind of regulator I actually need (future reference/slightly curious how hard to pop bearings in etc type of thing) , and if just replacing the brushes themselves was possible.
(since there are 2 different types/styles that keep popping up for the same apparently)

Slip rings look "ok"

Found a replacement cheapy on ebay for $40 , but would love to retain the OE regulator.
Looks like Volvo sells the brushes for $12 solder in , and win.

This is where I suck :|
My bro owned this car before me , and had it read for the CEL coming on/off intermittently last year.
He told me it was smog pump system type related-ish is all I know at this very moment (asked for specific codes , and he couldn't remember them or had them written down somewhere) , didn't get it fixed (engine gave) , and yet the pump was supposively working at the time.
Will have to get the actual codes ... so I know what the hell I'm doing lol then post them too when I get the replacement engine in (hopefully in the next 20yrs lulz).

Do you know anything about the oil pickup tube o-rings/seals drying up , and aerating the oil as a result on these models ? (850 , v70 , s70)
I was reading through IPD's website when shopping for parts , and came across that little "fact" if someone could call it that.
I'm a noob to these particular engines.
Miss my 740 turdbo.

I know very little about these Volvos.

If you have the "new"engine out-now's the time for major maintenance. Timing belt, water pump, oil pick up seals.

Should be an easy swap though. Get at it.

I like these and the 850's type engines myself just never had to "actually" work on one so yeah...lol.

Yup yup yes sir !
Well I should roll down to IPD for the oil pick up seals then.
Timing belt kit w/tensioner , and water-pump should arrive here tomorrow !
Have rear main-seal , PCV Flame-trap box + a couple of PCV Box hoses/fittings , Wahler t-stat , Good-year serpentine belt , and a Victor Reinz intake-manifold gasket in me hands. Looks like the intake manifold has to come off to get the PCV box off without being a bische apparently.

LOL ...exactly...

Nice man !
Older brothers friend had an old 240 5spd turbo (don't remember the exact model) ... then a 740 turbo , and an 850.
His bro had a 240 auto , and another one after it got t-boned.
My other brother and I had 740 turdbo's years ago.
Friend had a 240 wagon that his gf , and him loved until a drunk plowed into them from the rear (giggidity).

Floating bricks !
