Welp, forgot to post that I got a wagon after my 68 on this forum. I seriously never noticed.
I'm gonna do everything I wanted to do to my last dime this time around... so i bought a shell.
This is my 72 goon that I plan to keep forever.

W58 head. Is it an L20B block also?

It looks like one to me, the case vent is pointed up(L20b), and it has no oil dipstick hole on the driverside(Z22) even though it has the place for it, so i would guess late L20b.

Well the brakes didn't necessarily fail. But in a sense, they were not perfect.

I think that white is gonna be the color of the engine bay.

I think it'll look so clean. and my other option was black but that doesn't seem to be clean to me?

I need to order some parts to finish up my engine and a few other things but to verify, a u95 block came out of an early 610?
I need a new thermostat housing and what not so I just needed to know what it came from to look on rock auto.

I need to do some research and know what my tranny came from. I need new bearings since it's already out.

I can't read my damn tranny but the bell housing say something like an L6 or 26?

All L thermostats are the same, just pick your temperature. Also don't refer to your block as a u95. Its a L20b. And then you have whatever head, and regardless of those things they all take the same thermostat.

and I'm not sure what you mean by tranny being out, and needing bearings, but specifics of the issue will help diagnose and find the correct parts. Trannys aren't really stamped well.

I cannot agree with you about all the L block thermostats being the same, the early L16 thermostat has a hole in it because the L16 thermostat housing didn't have a bypass hose, while the L20b with the bypass hose didn't have that hole in the thermostat, the thermostat you use depends on what thermostat housing/piping one uses.

Or just use one with a hole and it works in all...

Or I dont have a hole, just a jiggle valve and never have had an issue... and I dont have the bypass...

Or just look at this Genuine Nissan Thermostat that work is all "L, Z, A, E, CA" and it has a jiggle valve!!!




Or if you go to Rockauto...and look at a Stant 180 degree (13858) and look at the application list... its good for all of these! and many more other non Nissans...

So I digress, they are all the same. They all come with a jiggle valve. If you want a "hole" you have to modify it yourself.

Yes, Oil Pumps are the same. You can even use the Z series, and even the KA single cam oil pump. The 280ZX Turbo and KA24E (single cam) are both high volume units.

got to agree with DRIVEN. I'm for keeping a car it's stock color cause it makes it easier to paint so it will match the interior and door jams and old vehicles are worth more when kept stock. That I've learned when into muscle cars.

I really am to but I've really wanted to build a datsun a certain way but never had the money/time/experience.

But I'm actually planning to paint everywhere in the car.
I'm gonna restrip it when I do paint it because I want to redo my interior anyways.

I was actually being sarcastic when I said that -- since mine is the same color. Personally, I never really liked it but when they are shiny that color isn't bad. Like you, I planned a color change inside and out. Now that a few years have gone by I'm rethinking that idea. First, Ni10 is correct, stock color is best for investment reasons. Second, it's a bunch of work to CORRECTLY do a color change. Most people don't go 110% to make it right and the result is a hackish paint job. As stated earlier, it's your car and your money. Just be honest with yourself about you ability to get the job done -- whether you do it all yourself or pay someone else to do it. Your car deserves it.

Well I plan to do it to the best of my abilities.
I want my engine bay white to match my color scheme so it should be nice.
I'm hopefully planning to get primer tomorrow if all goes well.
I'm also waiting on some parts to come and I can install my exedy clutch

Here's some updates.
I got the engine but mounts were way too thick so i have to get some nos ones.
The bay is just primered.
Also i put in because I'm moving and ill retake it out in a few weeks or so when I have time to finish it all up.
I also have the car on wheels.
